I just returned from Beqa, Fiji... how large is the resort that you're staying at and the island itself? The island I went to had no ATM, but the rooms all had a safe. Since the island had no stores either... I left all my cash, credit cards and passport in the safe the entire time. It was stress free to not have to worry about this! =)

So, hopefully your resort will have a safe in the room... otherwise, you shouldn't have to bring a large wad of cash with you... Most stores and restaurants accept credit cards... then again... it depends on what island you're visiting... =)

With regard to the small waterproof cases, be sure to test them before you put anything in there that you don't want wet. Most of the small ones aren't designed for more than a few feet underwater.
You could also try multiple zip lock bags.

Renee is right on the money here.....even the Otter boxes that are guaranteed to 100ft. will leak. I had one leak last year in Mexico at depths of 80fsw or less, bought another identical one, and it leaked in the cenotes, where you will rarely exceed 40ffw. The dive ops will take wet money, but they really don't like it, take my word for it....LOL.

Actually, you need to be cautious with the cases that *don't* leak as well. On a previous diving trip, one of the guys in our group had a completely watertight case that he was wearing. Since no water could come in, the case couldn't equalize and imploded when he got around 90'. Left a major bruise on his chest, lol.
