Perhaps some of the BP and wing manufacturers might consider opening a private forum...

"A private forum is available for every major manufacturer of scuba gear who wants one at no charge.

This is all that's required:

* It must be requested by a rep of the manufacturer. The rep must be a registered user here on ScubaBoard (it's free!), just contact us to make the request for a forum.
* It is reviewed often by the manufacturer's rep(s). Twice weekly should be the minimum.
* The ScubaBoard Terms of Service still apply, except that you may shamelessly promote your products on your own private forum.
* You must indicate at least one member to be a Moderator for your forum.
You may have as many as you wish, all equipped with this nifty badge.
Manufacturer
* Banners within your private forum are available for a nominal fee or are included free with any other paid advertising campaign. Please contact us for terms and details."

NetDoc:
I call it "tribe mentality"... not that we blindly follow one person: but that we protect those who we see as part of our tribe! I would suggest that BOTH of these manufacturers are part of the :sblogo: tribe. If you think you want to attack either one, just watch the rest of the tribe come to their defense. .

Does it have to be "herd?" Couldn't it be "Tribe?"

Tribe it is! Great point! Both of our posts have been edited!

I'm not opposed to the idea, but I don't see how it helps. Who exactly would moderate?

Would a dedicated DSS forum prevent personal attacks and other assorted bomb throwing any better than the current arraignment?

Tobin

I'll mod... but I dive a Hogarthian / DIR Wing....

Actually,

private forums were designed to stop just that sort of thing Tobin. Other manufacturers are not allowed to post about their gear in YOUR forum: it's all you.

That does not stop you from answering questions out here though. It's not designed to eliminate controversy nor is it intended to keep you penned up.

Who would mod your forum? First of all: YOU! You can also add anyone who is associated with your company to moderate in there as well. Don't worry, our 50+ ScubaBoard moderators will help you out so you don't have to go it alone. Whenever anyone initiates a thread (question or comment) you will get an instant e-mail notification about the content.

I think that we would have to look to Pete for some guidance on this... but, yes, I believe that a private manufacturer's forum is... or should be... protected to some degree.

Hey gang... we were hijacking the thread all over again, so I split us off to here. :D

Seems to me that a private manufacturers forum is a win-win... a no brainer.
