I carry a pack away duffle that I can pull out at the last minute just in case I have to change strategies for check on or anything else. I also put anything heavy in a photo vest that I drape over my arm (it's "light"). I suppose I could wrap my regulator around my neck or waist and pretend it's some new accessory.:D Do they have any limits on the size of hat you can wear - maybe I could put something there? I certainly can't pretend I'm pregnant...
you don't need "pregnant"

just grow yourself (or pretend you have) a filipino-type beer belly... it ought to pass

Do they still have the sports plus card available? I checked online but could not find a link to that.

*oops* found the link.... in the Mabuhay Miles Website. Was looking at PALs website and it wasn't there.

Looks promising. For a minimum of $30 saves you a lot of trouble paying for excess baggage or looking pregnant.

Yes, heres' the link: https://www.mabuhaymiles.com/sportsplus/benefits/benefits.jsp

You have to actually go to a PAL office to register. Apparently there isn't a way to do it online. I'll have to find time to make it down to their office in Tokyo before my trip next month. I'll be flying PAL from Manila to Puerto Princesa and back from Busuanga to Manila. 100 pesos per kilo could add up really fast!

FYI i saw a sign at the check in cebu that PAL now charges 100 PESOS per kilo excess baggage...

they're no better now than cebu pacific...

NO WAY! :dropmouth: don't forget, PLUS VAT! :crocodile:

Just got back from Davao last saturday via PAL. They charge 55.90 / excess kilo which includes vat (?!?) I don't understand why we have to pay TAX  for this.

Brought home about 30 kilos worth of fruit (durian - dehusked, and mangosteen) tsk. Money saved from buying fruit there all went to excess baggage charges I think.

One can try to send one's baggage by Pal or Cebupac CARGO at almost half the price. The only catch is that your gear can be bumped off. But this has never happened to me. Last time I checked the rate was Php 30-35 per kilo or thereabouts.

At the risk of invoking the ire of the PAL specialists on board, given the responses to my comments on the sports card, I will limit myself to this:

While you cannot do it "on line", you can do it by email. IIRC, you need to send them the money by bank transfer and then email them a scan of the receipt.

If anyone is interested, I can dig up the contact details.

perfect reason for a halcyon rig. my setup looks huge and bulky next to a halcyon rigged tank... but then theres the weight of the backplate.

I left my AL backplate in Manila. And just travel with the wing and STA nowadays...
