more bad news for those planning to pretend their hand carried luggage are light as a feather:
The Manila Times Internet Edition | BUSINESS >CebuPac to introduce new fee

Yeah, that's too bad! I had to get a larger backpack style camera case for my carry-on this trip as i'm bringing the Nikon, lenses, strobes, laptop and my underwater camera gear.

Me thinks I'll be paying much airport fees just to snap some pretty pictures of your country.

ahhh...but the memories those pictures will bring for years to come! :eyebrow:

btw...does MNL have pay lockers that a person could stow his unnecessary luggage ?

peprhaps I'm just lucky with every trip I take, I bring along my lowepro computrekker (with 2 cameras, laptop, lenses, flash, etc..) which for sure would exceed the 7 kilos hand carry allowance. That P500 flat rate (interception fee) would be cheap instead of the regular rate of P100 per excess kilo.

Saw this on the PAL Website:
Sports Equipment

An applicable excess baggage charge will be collected from passengers carrying any of the following in excess of the normal free baggage allowance:

* Golf equipment contained in one golf bag and one pair of golf shoes
* Snow skiing equipment consisting of one pair of skis, one pair of ski poles and one pair of boots

For passengers carrying any of the following sports equipment, an applicable excess baggage charge will automatically be collected: (what does this mean? the moment you check in your gear you get charged for it, regardless if this is the only bag you check in?

* Scuba diving equipment consisting of one empty scuba tank, one regulator, one harness, one pressure gauge, one mask, two twins, one snorkel, one knife, one speargun, one safety vest and one weight belt
* Surfboarding equipment

I didn't have any problem the last time I flew PAL in Sept and Oct. That's why I will be flying with them March 9th to Dumaguette. I thought they ended up cheaper after I figured all of Cebu Pacific's added charges. I use a generic duffle for my scuba gear and caried all my camera, reg and dive computer stuff. I've got my fingers crossed they don't notice.

I just flew on them and had to carry on most of my dive gear stuffed into a computer case. It was a total night mare and they wanted a ton of cash for the extra...

I knew a guy who didnt have any options (or extra cash) who resorted to WEARING his BCD on the flight.

:shocked2: COMFY!!! lmao :)

Perhaps I should sign up for the Sports Plus Card again after all. I'll be flying PAL for two legs of my trip next month

Just purchased a Lowepro Fastpack 350. I think that will take care of my camera gear... at least the size of the bag is within the restrictions.

Now if I could just figure out a way to get everything else into carryon... don't think I'm going to make it :shakehead:

i second this. lately i've been taking pal more often, for some reason. I just use a plain black bag to check in my scuba gear and they don't seem to notice. never got charged extra. a mesh bag or one with a lot of dive logos/stickers might get charged as excess.

I carry a pack away duffle that I can pull out at the last minute just in case I have to change strategies for check on or anything else. I also put anything heavy in a photo vest that I drape over my arm (it's "light"). I suppose I could wrap my regulator around my neck or waist and pretend it's some new accessory.:D Do they have any limits on the size of hat you can wear - maybe I could put something there? I certainly can't pretend I'm pregnant...

***? Airlines these days are loosing all inhibitions when it comes to making a $

I never pack my breakables with the rest of the gear-computer, reg. torch and mask are always in my carry-on, I figure the rest of the gear can take the beating of the cargo hold.
Lucky for me my diving bag has no logos printed on it, I`ll pack my cloths on top of the gear and hopefully will be able to avoid this penalty when flying with both Cebu Pacific and PAL.
