I've been searching for a bit and can't seem to find any threads with unexpired pictures of various necklace designs using shock cord. I did however find this one http://www3.sympatico.ca/chatterton/bungee.html , only I can't seem to figure out how the mouthpiece lasso was made. I'm particularly interested in assembling one which won't allow it to become diconnected from the reg by a panicking OOA diver. Thanks

Chris

Chris -- The necklace shown in the Chatterton link is constructed by making a fisherman's knot on either side. Google the knot, and you'll come up with sites that will help you tie it (I'm too lazy tonight to go back and find the threads that discuss this, but there are EXCELLENT links, including animations, if you want to spend the time looking for the threads. They aren't old.) However, the reg CAN be pulled out of that kind of necklace.

If you want the reg really firmly attached, you can put knots on either end of your bungie, and then zip tie the bungie to the mouthpiece. It is advisable to put that zip tie over the one attaching the mouthpiece to the reg, or else, if somebody really hauls on the reg and the zip tie breaks, you lose your mouthpiece as well.

If you just want to get one at a reasonable price, Salvo Diving sells the necklace for 3 bucks. I believe the address is Salvodiving.com

I'd suggest actually tying it yourself. Not some much to save money (saving $2.50 isn't huge), but simply for the experience. Once you tie the first one (took me a few minutes), you'll be able to do others in no time at all (maybe a minute to tie, another minute to adjust the size). Worth knowing in case you ever need to fashion another one when out diving (I carry spare bungee in my bag).

I think I like the idea of zip-tying the mouthpiece to the shock cord. Can't wait to pick up my new Apeks primary tomorrow and try it out. Thanks!

I was curious so I went to their pages to see the necklace they were offering (not that I need it).

I have a whole new respect for their backplates, however, after browsing around their site for a bit. :eyebrow:

(I never did find the necklace, though, have a link?)
