Unfortunately the cruise ships are a double edged sword. You get the good the comes with the money they bring in and then all the bad...the change, the pollution, everything else that goes along with it.

In less than four days, with 340 replies, this thread has now made the first page of Cozumel posts ranked by number of replies, right behind TS Rita, but still lagging several roll call threads. It's still got a long way to go to reach the number one post by number of replies, "The Swine Flu thing" at 741.

Hopefully the government will pay attention to the people who have said they are changing there travel plans to other locations.

Wow. Just wow. All this discussion about who was at the meeting or who knew about the meeting. Why don't you all put your energies together and work towards a solution like finding the cause.

If you watch the video above it appears that folks in Florida are doing just that.

And yet to my knowledge one thing Florida has not done is restrict divers.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for taking logical, necessary steps to fix this heart breaking death of the coral. I am just not convinced that Cozumel is making the best choices and I remain skeptical that they will. Time will tell.

The sad thing is it probably won't because it's just a drop in the bucket compared to the money they make from the cattle boats.

I haven't read (all of) the previous 35 pages, but can you tell me how likely it is, that they will open southern reefs by march 2020?

I remember a few years ago before this hit the news that trouble was coming!
My friend dove molasses and there was a batch of pillar coral there for years colorful and healthy.
They dove it a week later, white and dead.
Slowly we started seeing it creep southward.
Mind you this was about 3 years ago

Dandy, go read my post again. #148. Here is the relevant part:

"Don, when you quit driving a gasoline vehicle, stop flying on airplanes, using products derived from fossil fuels, use natural gas or propane, electricity produced from fossil fuels, etc. you may be immune of calls of being a hypocrite."

That states that if you effectively stop using anything derived from fossil fuels then you can't be balled a hypocrite. Not that you are one. Maybe you are. Maybe not.

My lies? I have been around long enough to see fake science and "the world is ending" laments for decades. The climate change hoax is just the current iteration of that lie. I know. Many others do.

PS, if people believe in man-made climate change then do all the things I suggested above and.....wait for it...stop having kids. Live your carbon free life but stop trying to impact me.

This "climate change" mantra as justification for closing reefs is asinine, without basis and just plain stupid.

Can you please point me to your research on climate science? You seem to know it all so please enlighten us.

You are correct, Florida has not closed areas and diving has not been limited. However, there is considerable ongoing activity aimed at understanding SCTLD and finding effective treatment/prevention.

I am also concerned that Cozumel's actions may not be effective, though, this might provide an opportunity to systematically investigate the many variables that are contributing to the stress on their reefs. This information might lead to further, evidence based, interventions. It may also allow Cozumel to make a valuable contribution to the diagnosis and treatment of SCTLD, under the controlled environment of the closed area. We can only hope.
