Xanthro,

If you follow a girl around the pool while staring at her crotch there might be some harm that could come from "just looking". Don't be surprised when she gives you a bloody nose :)

There's no girl that I would want to follow around while staring at her crotch, so that's not a likely scenario.

That said, how can you tell if someone is looking at someone's crotch underwater? Really, you can't. Plus, even if it could be proven that he was staring at her crotch so what? How on earth is she harmed?

Unless he's following her around and stalking her, staring at someone does not harm him or her.

I've been in a pool and had people stare at me, so what?

I think people are overlooking that for some reason. That's what tells me things are a bit odd.

Not that I'm gonna start something over it, but the gal should definitely be told... if she was unaware of his oogling, that is. Then it's up to her to deal with it as she feels appropriate.

What's so hard about that?

The problem is that the OP didn't notice any behavior until someone else pointed it out. At that point it's easy to misintepret behavior to fit a pattern you expect to recognize.

If you think about it, how could you ever be sure that someone is staring at someone's crotch underwater? Unless the person admits it, you can't know.

ZAquaman:
I didn't refer to how this guy looked. I was refering to his actions. I know I left out much of what was going on (his actions) but I really expected a different response to this situation. It seems like there are few gentelmen out there who are offended by lecherous behavior. Perhaps this is the result of zealous femanism? Why are so many so quick to discount the possibility that he may have been misbehaving?

These women came to the pool to exercise. They were wearing appropriate attire for a pool workout. I don't feel that they should have to endure that sort of harrasment. Could have I mistaken his intentions? Perhaps, but after speaking with him about it I had no doubt that he was up to no good. He was embarased about being caught in the act and seemed fearful that I might take it to management.

I think women (regardelss of their looks or dress) deserve much more respect than many of you are willing to give them. Next time you're staring at a lady, remeber she's someone's daughter, wife, mother, or girlfriend. Give them a break!

what response did you expect, 100 posts calling you a hero and agreeing with you? Just because I am doing neither doesn't mean that I disrespect women, encourage lecherous behavior or have some deep seated resentment of feminism (where did that come from anyway ???) so no need to go there.
You didn't offer very much information in your 1st post to justify your actions plain and simple. If you wouldn't have made a poll and asked for opinions you wouldn't have had people analyze it the way they did and criticize you for it.
The women I check out aren't my mother or daughter and ignoring them isn't getting them any closer to being my girlfriend or wife so whats a guy to do? :)

I visited LA once for just an afternoon before I took a flight out. Not knowing anyone there and having heard of Venice beach I decided to go for a walk there to see why it was so famous. At one point I needed a pee so I found a public urinal. Afterwards I wasn't quite sure what to do next so I sat on a wall about 50 meters away trying to decide where to go. The next thing I know I'm being heavily insulted, called a pervert etc by a bunch of young guys. I had absolutely no idea why they were so aggressive and it seriously made me wonder if LA was really the 'laid back' place it was supposed to be. Things are really not always what they seem, but there are always those that jump to conclusions.

Yeah, what if that person has a floating eye or something. What if he has a social disorder that requires him to stare at women in order to not harm people. What if he was just really really confused as he lost his daughter a year ago and this girl looked just like her so he was checking for a birthmark near her crotch.

I'm going with the latter.

You may have still been near the bathroom and they thought that you were gay. Some people just get bent out of shape if they think someone is gay. It's bizarre behavior in my opinion.

From Gidds-I get leered at all the time at dive sites and I have pepper spray in reach at all times that my buddy (usually male) is not by my side. Leer all you like but don't come within spray range if you know what's good for you. Don't even think about filing an assault charge on me either if you insist on undressing me with your eyes for an hour then you come skulking up and startle me and get sprayed.

Just don't get it mixed up with your defog !

Ya...maybe you're right. OTOH, it might really be obvious. I would think that if he wasn't zoning in on her 'frog kick' that he would have his head (and mask) pointed forward...toward where he was swimming.

What's the harm in telling the gal what you suspect? She can change lanes or take a break for a second to get out of synch with the guy... or whatever. No one needs to make a big deal of it.
