IMO an aluminum tank is the only way to go and a sling strap is very easy to make with nothing more then a large hose clamp, a couple of bolt snaps and a length of 1/4 inch thick nylon rope.

Check out this link.

Stage bottle rigging

I did something similar for my pony. I went to the local hardware store and bought a dog leash. It was 3/4 flat webbing with a SS boltsnap on one end already. I bought another snap (with a "D" ring on the base; works great with flat webbing) and 2 SS hose clamps. Works great, looks "store bought", and was cheap. Couldn't ask for more!

AL30 or AL40, they ride very nice, up and behind my armpit. With a reg its basically minus 2 full and plus 2 empty (in salt h2o).

A -5 steel bottle would be a definate pain, throw off my balance, act as weight up high when I need weight at my waist, and overall ride like a boat anchor.

This is with drysuit, 200 gm undergarment, vest, steel BP, steel hp100s. In salt water I add an 8lb weightbelt.

Another plug for exchanging this for a Al cylinder.
