Tech

I had no clue what XR was until this thread. I’ve never seen it used. It’s dumb but so are Tec & Tek.

As someone new to technical diving and someone who doesn't know its history, the term "extended range" makes sense to me. Tech diving extends the range of what's taught in OW and AOW. Calling it "technical diving" sets up "non-technical diving" as an alternative, which doesn't make much sense. All scuba diving seems technical by the dictionary definition.

The term "XR" as promoted by SSI and Mares does seem too proprietary.

Are you saying you can't have Tech without an H?

Maybe everyone is smarted then me and I over read this or everyone missed your pun.

H = helium

Actually I was making a joke about GUE and Halcyon, but everyone missed that too.
Not everyone missed it [I am sure of tHat ].

I've chosen : other. Why ? Just find the whole bunch : tec, tek or even tech utterly stupid. Diving is nothing natural, it's a technical hobby in itself, even if you stay well within NDL. We use our rigs to extend your, very limited ability to progress and stay alive while submerged.

So what does the damned tech 'label' add to it ?

I would very much prefer complex diving, closer to the truth.

I have found this discussion amusing. When it comes to communication, all that is important is does what is intended match what is understood.

Tech/tec/tek/xr/whatever I understand. If I don't understand something, I'll ask the other person what they meant.

I find this debate almost as silly of Greek versus Turkish coffee. Its Arab coffee now drink up and enjoy.

All the hills outside of Abilene when I was a kid. Yamaha RDs and RZs on the street and Suzuki RMs, Yamaha YZs and DTs on the dirt.

I had a TZ350 engine put into my Yamaha RZ frame. Scared the crapper out of people on larger bikes :)
