Poll: Is it Tec, Tek, or Tech diving?

I think that what happens in lots of activities is that new terms come into being, and it takes a while for everyone to get on board with common terminology. When I first started diving, the apparatus people wear to control buoyancy was called (in my observation, at least) a BC and a BCD in about equal numbers. I think the usage is moving much more to BCD.

I personally use tech, which is, of course, a problem because I teach PADI Tec and have to use that when referring to the course titles. (No, I have no idea why they made that decision.)

I am also the kind of guy who does not fight over issues like this, so if someone writes something to me using a particular spelling, I will usually respond the same way. No sense making an issue out of it.

Speaking as someone accused of being hypersensitive to agency bashing, I don't consider this to be agency bashing at all. You have identified a specific decision they made and voiced reasonable disagreement with it. No problem. I am a PADI member, and I have voiced disagreements with some of their decisions on many occasions. In this case, I share your disagreement.

I'm in the same boat. I keep calling it BC though, unless someone first uses BCD in the conversation.

I can't remember what I used to call SPGs 30 years ago. Pretty sure I didn't call them SPGs. Maybe just pressure gauge.
