I regularly dive Monterey, PtLobos, SanMiguel etc cold water (high 40s to low 50s) in a 7/6/5mm Excel attached hooded wetsuit. But I also add a 7mm Henderson hyperstretch hood first below my regular hooded wetsuit. This has made all the difference in staying warm. Before double hooding, by the end of my 2nd cold water dive I'd be getting "cool". After I began double hooding, I am usually toasty. Can do 3dives, or in the case of SanMiguel, up to 6 dives a day by double hooding (as long as I stay out of the wind).
