an you give me an education as to the differences between "balanced" and "non balanced" diaphram regulators?

also, what is the deal with the ive-pre dive switch on some regs?

thanks!

ok read it... boy that was long but very good read. thanks however it didnot cover the dive pre-dive switch and the idea behind them...???

For those 2nd stages that have a "dive/pro-dive" switch, it serves to increase cracking pressure or WOB in the pre-dive position to reduce the likelyhood or severity of a freeeflow. The exact mechanism may vary. Most regs accomplish this by adding a adjustable vain (small sail) that sits in the path of the airflow and enhances (dive mode) or interferes (pre-dive) with the airflow into your mouth. This has no effect on cracking pressure but does increase WOB a bit which only reduces the severity of a freeflow. Others like the discontinued scubapro D-series actually add a resistance spring in the circuit of devices that gets air flowing thus increasing cracking pressure (and WOB) and reducing the tendency to start a freeflow.

The pre dive position is used as the name suggest when not diving. This position actually de-tunes the regulator to prevent free flowing to conserve air...........................

never mind....Awap beat me to it.....darn retired people don't have anything better to do. :)
