Denise,
I just saw this. I am so sorry to hear this. Zach, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Zach is still at the Baptist Hospital in the SICU in Pensacola, FL. Xrays reveal no tissue damage to his lungs. The mechanical process is the reason he is still having to breathe with a respirator but that is expected because of the broken ribs, bruising and swelling of the lungs. As this begins to heal, the doctors expect for him to begin to breathe on his on again. The doctors said not to get too concerned on a daily basis about the respirator rate, peeps, and pressure changes. They will continue to tweak these for his utmost comfort during the healing process. He remains in an induced coma and the doctors are keeping his vital signs stable. They expect this healing will progress over a month and he has now been in the hospital a little over a week. We are thankful there is no neurological or spinal damage. He will not have to have his broken jaw wired because the break was a fracture that did not require this. We continue to praise God for his continued healing.

Thanks everyone so much for your prayers and concerns. We love you all!!

Thanks for the update. So glad he keeps improving. Praying for a little more good news every day.

How are you and your daughter doing and the rest of the family? Praying for all of you.

My daughter is continuing to stay at the Ronald McDonald house and feels so very blessed for this! She spends her days at the ICU waiting room and her nights at the house. They provide meals at the house for her and other family and friends have brought food for us to snack on while at the hospital. So far, I have been driving back and forth alot of days but I may try to get qualified to stay in her room with her some next week because her husband has had to go back to work and can't be there all the time.

I am glad they are able to stay close by and get some rest. Even if they aren't really able to sleep well, it helps to lay on a bed in a quiet place. Hopefully they will let you stay with her. It helps having another person--specially your Mom--near at a time like this.

I have read your words on here and empathize with what you ate going through because I know it's hard. I work in a level one trauma center in Charlotte and recognize some of the progressions you speak of and I'm sorry you and your family are going through all of this. It is promising new that there is no head or spinal injury. I hope for a speedy recovery with all of this. Hang in there.

I'm glad to hear Zach is doing well. Denise, Call me up. You know you're welcome to crash at my house while in Pensacola.

denise, that's sounding pretty good. still hanging in & praying for y'all.
