One member here has messaged me that he got a shipping notice with tracking from overseas. I suspect that ACR PLBs are made overseas, and it's possible that someone obtained some with USA code, but I have to wonder - including how they got them.

My order still shows as Processing so I went ahead and filed a dispute.

Has that worked for others? Who saw it? How did they get the spark at sea?
ACR is located just SW of Ft. Lauderdale airport, and have always been proud of their products being made in the USA.
It is possible that it's a black market fake and is being sold as USA coded. Could be interesting...

I didn't know they were US based, let alone here in my home state. That's groovy!

If anyone here actually receives one from this, I guess it would be wise to check the ID with the ACR company. In fact, they would probably like to know about this ad now. I just sent them a message thru their site with a link.

I think it was just a scam as some predicted and no one will receive one. Get those disputes started folks. It was too good to be true, but too good for some of us to not try.

I ordered two, one with the digital display and one without. They were ordered separately, both with PayPal. The PayPal payments went to different email addresses! The digital one I've gotten multiple emails about, tracking its progress. China Post says they have it in their shipping queue. The cheaper, non-digital one, I've gotten no responses to any of my queries; I've filed a PayPal complaint about it. We'll see.....

The $53 PLB is using a website template I have seen several times before over the past 6 months or more, when looking into a deal too good to be true. Unreasonably low priced Apple products, dive computers, and such listed on the same site as totally unrelated and over priced items.

Since this seems to be a rinse and repeat scam, it would not be a bad idea to look over the appearance of the website and avoid purchasing next time it pops up. Initial attempts to call or use email contact are responded to, and tracking can be provided that appears to work but the item never moves.

They aren't. They are made right here in Ft Lauderdale. I've been on a tour of the factory myself. :) Some Ocean Signal ACR products are still made overseas as ACR purchased Ocean Signal UK and just continued the normal production.

If you go to their website and scroll to the bottom you will see their address is Ft. Lauderdale.

Haven't been inside that building since 2009. I bet much has changed, yet much still the same.

UPDATE:
China Post says one of my two orders is with USPS in New York, the other has been shipped.
We'll see.
How do I tell if they are counterfeit and non-usable if either should be delivered?

I'd call ACR with the serial numbers.
