Robbie Meistrell and I were talking the other day. His Father Bob and twin Brother Bill Meistrell owned Dive N' Surf in Redondo Beach, California. At 16 teen Robbie and I became good friends. Later with his support, the Family supported Force Fin development. Another story. But he reminded me of this image. You can only see Robbie and Perch in 1967. Looming overhead was the hull of the "Avon", laying in 70 feet of water, off Palos Verdes, California. The next day we went back again to take more pictures and the whole side of the ship had fallen over flat. We both looked at each other with amazement realizing how close we came to being entombed. Another image is

of Bob looking down the houser hole. Another image of Jim Pennington. Used mostly Black and White film at the time due to the

higher cost for color.

I last worked with Steve Barsky when we both worked as divers for Sub Sea International on the BP Forties Bravo Platform North Sea around 1981/2 The vessel was the Oil Endeavour (Roll Forever) a standard SubSea two man bell with a below deck vertical 4 sat system. Never saw him after that.

I guess from the photo he has lost some weight since then. ROFL. Teach us to number our days.

I will let him know. Steve and Kristine live in Utah and we talk often. They both are one of our closest friends. All I can say is that type of diving was the pinnacle of adventure. Thanks, Bob

Found a picture of Ira Opper and my camera system with a buoyancy control system. We were looking at the natural oil seeps at 210 feet. Coal Oil Point, California. One camera was a Black and White video with the other housing carrying an 8MM camera we could trigger topside when we saw something worthwhile to film. The limit

was 3 minutes. Jar-Mar Engineering built the lights and helped with the project. Hugh Thomson and John Baca built the control systems for the buoyancy at UCSB mechanical

department. . It was amazing what we did back in 1978.
