I was just in the area a couple weeks ago. I was staying at Atlantis resort up in Dumaguete. I think I saw El Dorado (looked nice). Apo Island is only 30min away by bangka. I can't say how the resorts on Apo Island are but noticed a few people (including Westerners) who were using Apo Island based diving ops

How much time? Hmm I guess it depends on what type of diving you like? Do you like muck diving looking for little critters on sloping black sand or do prefer drop offs with schooling jacks and other large fish ? I only did 1 day (3 dives) on Apo Island and approx 2 days in the Dumaguete area. If I go back, I would prefer to spend more days diving Apo Isl. (I prefer big stuff and wide angle shots). That being said, there are some really interesting little stuff around Dauin and further up to Dumaguete.

Hey Pakman, you ever get around to taking any pictures of those God-awful refineries just across the water from PG?

What an abominable eyesore!

stay at eldorado. it's about the best place you can choose.
it is devinitely not worth staying on apo island. resorts are very basic.
trip from eldorado to apo dive site will take about 35 min. back to the resort count on about 45 to 60 min. it depends on wind and waves. if you like soft corals, calm seas and bright skys, then it's your place. not to much fish though. it is just an 10us add on for the boat trip.

how much time to spend? from 3 to 4 days to 36 days. that's how much i have spent there. you also need to dive the pier. thats word class diving. in front of the resort is a reef/sanctuary. whenever you and your buddy like it, grab tanks and go diving.

and one more hint. single shot of rum is 50 pesos, double is 60 pesos. and yes, the food is excellent.

entering the philippines through manila, fly to dumaguete! the resort will pick you up at airport or ferry starion

have fun.

thanks for the tips. I think I will book with them.
I understand that there are great muck dives around there. Is the pier one of them ?

try to do a site called Sahara... some really cool stuff there including about 4 really nice frogfish, green, brown, black, and yellow.

yep, one is just in front of the resort (seven froggies at that time). and yes, the pier is the best (in my opinion)

pakman where is sahara???

I'm not 100% sure but I think Sahara was the spot right in front of Scubaworld or Sea Explorers. From Atlantis in Dumaguete heading south, it was approx 15min by speedboat and we had to round the point just south of Atlantis resort.
