I've been diving for 13 years. Over the years, divers would ask, did you see the hammerhead? My response was always no. It was frustrating because I wanted to see it too!

About 3 weeks ago, I was approached by two hammerheads. I couldn't believe it!


This past weekend, I was in the Breakers area and had another encounter! That's 3 hammers within a month.

We went out Saturday on my buddy's boat. It was noticeably windier than expected. We expected 3 ft seas. Instead, we got consistent 4 - 6 ft seas. Surface current was 4.5 mph. We really hoped it was amplified by the wind. We dropped divers leading up to the Princess Anne. They surfaced after 20 minutes. The current was so strong, they struggled to stay on the wreck. We could hear all the charters sharing their experiences with the current, so everyone was affected. It was estimated that divers were traveling .75 miles in 12 to 15 minutes. We picked up our divers and decided to call it a day. Since we split the boat, I didn't get a chance to dive. Honestly though, I was ok with it. For one, I didn't want to tow a flag in that. Two, we're hunting, and currents make it very challenging. I was also concerned with floating fish and the boat seeing the markers in big seas.

The current was so strong, they struggled to stay on the wreck. .......divers were traveling .75 miles in 12 to 15 minutes.

That's some difficult conditions and heard about alot of big rogue waves out there... But good news is that it will really bunch up the lions and bugs as they pick the best spots to hide from the strong currents.

Are there any operators going out the Boca Inlet and diving reels from Delray to Hillsboro? I used to dive with a couple of them a while back but now that I am back into diving regularly, I can't find any.

Diversity was the only one I was aware of and the owner recently retired & sold his boat. The Boca Inlet is a real bear to get in & out of. Worse than Boynton Inlet. The Boynton boats typically will come south to Delray but not as far south as Boca.

LadyGo diver (Dixie Divers) went out of boca inlet, unless things changed, I haven’t dove with them in a really long time.

Boca is not even listed in the location drop down and no Boca operators are showing up.

The times I used them they went south out of the Hillsboro Inlet. They are quite close to the Boca Inlet, but it gets so shoaled up plus it is small. I would think a big boat like that would have a really hard time getting out of the Boca Inlet, at least as the inlet is now.

I know what you mean about the Boca Inlet. I remember when diving on a private boat (many years ago), we would go out the inlet and immediately turn south and then east to deeper water before going north or south to one of our sites.

I've been out on Diversity many times in the past. Any idea who Tony sold his boat to and if they are running a dive operation? I emailed him but didn't hear back.
