Not all of us can afford CCR's or even SCR's. FOr now, I will stick with my doubles jacked to get another 72 out of them... with no extra bottles to drag around.

The new E series tanks manufatured by Pressed Steel are as I understand it the exact same tanks (material used and wall thickness) as their LP predicessors. They simply recertified them to a higher pressure. Interestingly enough I have heard that they could have been certified to a much higher pressure than what they currently are but they held the rated pressure to just under the point of where they would have had to use DIN valves keeping them attractive to the masses of people still diving Yokes...

Run the math for, say, 200 dives on Trimix and see if the OC numbers still make sense..... it starts to look awfully attractive to me to go CCR on that basis alone, ignoring the other advantages (like greatly enhanced decompression curves since you are diving constant PO2.)

Oh, BELIEVE ME, I know it makes sense. All I am saying is that Gas is relatively cheap, especially if you blend your own. What I cant do right now is cough up $9500 for a CCR and the training all in one lump sum...

Maybe someday in the near future...

For right now, Im not even doin Trimix dives. I am planning on rectifying that situation this coming spring.

i don't believe this is right - the new E8 are an inch shorter and also 3 lb lighter per tank - so something must be physically different

Correct, they are NOT exactly the same as the LP tanks (E8 series). For proof, look at the specs of the old 104 compared to the new 130's. The E7's are almost identical.

Even blending my own, I'm not sure it doesn't make sense.

I don't dive Trimix right now, but if we get the carrier up here, that will almost certainly change. As it stands right now there is only one dive in this immediate area that makes Trimix worth it (the Ozark) and that's not enough to drive me to get involved in it. There are a lot of things around the 130-140' range, but I'm ok doing those on a custom Nitrox mix with a single deco bottle, and do.

What I'm trying to figure out is IF I decide to go get the 'Mix cert if it makes sense to take the jump into CCR land. I think it very well might, all things considered.

So if I understand correctly, they cut some "fat" out of the bottom (making them thinner down there), caused it to shrink a bit, and lose 3 lbs. AND THEN gave them the HP stamp of approval.

Sounds like it's an OK for me to O/P my LP's.

All this over pressure talk for what...5-10 min. of bottom time? Why?

Because we can. Thats why. You do what you want, and we do want we want...
Nobody is telling you that YOU have to overfill.

BTW, for me, I overfill so I can get two dives in on one set of doubles, and still have thirds for the second dive. Of course, these dives are not real deep, nor are they real long. Just makes things easier logistically on small boats.
