I got to see the sinking first hand and let me tell you it was awesome. Even though my Pensacola trip got cut short, it was well worth the trip down to see the Mighty O go under. Now I can't wait to go back and see what she looks like under the Gulf.

This just posted on MBT's forum a few minutes ago

Jim from MBT Divers in Pensacola dove it today as they were one of the organizers for the sinking and stated that the press report of 150 feet was wrong. He said they had 12 divers and they flight deck all read 130' (+/-) .

Re: SHE IS UPRIGHT

The Navy Divers were incorrrect - we had 12 divers on her that all agree withing 2-4 feet - average is: 69 to the top, 130 to the flight deck.

Be the first to get married on the Oriskany!

Who wants to be the first couple to get married underwater on the Oriskany?

Just give me a call and I can perform your ceremony underwater or above. Sorry, I can't do divorces.

Cheers,
Capt Ron

cmalinowski:
Way cool. My stupid work computer won't play the video so thanks for these.
Chris

The video consists of some rebreather divers rolling off a RIB, finally descending down an anchor line while looking at the superstructure on the way down(coolest part), then they walk around on the flight deck :06: The video then gets back to the RIB where they are holding onto the divers on the side of the boat.

They showed some video on the local news here taken by one of the guys diving with Jim(MBT). The video I saw from that was pretty awesome, wish I could find it online somewhere...

hey mike, where are the guys who posted pensacola viz sucks? What an underwater park, museum ,to honor all those who served. Wait till the big grouper's move in and take up residence in the hangers.

nice vid and pics guys, thanks

Here's what ScubaTech just told me via email:

Matt,

At this time we will not be running trips to the Oriskany because it is outside of our approved Coast Guard range. Thank you for the inquiry.
