Recently, I decided to add a tourniquet to my tech short pocket and thought, why not support DAN?

I found the thing and quickly concluded the purchase using Apple Pay. The tourniquet is $29.

I was more than surprised to receive an Apple Pay confirmation for $49+! Over $20 for shipping a several ounce item via FedEx Ground.

Unconscionable, in my opinion.

DAN now knows not to expect further orders or donations.

The very next step after adding the item to cart and entering your info is selecting shipping method with shipping costs listed. The costs are consistent with shipping quotes I get from Fedex directly. Not exactly sure how this is DAN's fault that you didn't realize things cost money to ship.

edited to add: Only because you said Apply Pay, I added the item to my card on my phone and I do have "express checkout" options vs filling my info in. I'm not about to click it and complete and order. If there's no "confirmation" after clicking apple pay with the total charge, that's an Apple problem, not DAN's. DAN still says "shipping will be calculated at checkout"

One, I can certainly do without the snarky insult.

Two, I use FedEx quite often and have never paid $20 to ship a 4-5 oz small package by ground.

Three, if you’ve ever used Apple Pay, you often bypass shipping selection.

Four, as I said, it’s my fault for not checking. Doesn’t negate the fact that in today’s competitive market, exorbitant shipping isn’t the smartest.

Thanks for playing.

DAN has made the decision to only use FedEx whereas most competitive business, which DAN is not are using USPS Ground. I placed a dummy order and agree the shipping is high for such a small and lightweight item. That is FedEx. However, the shipping was under $15 but $2 for the state/local sales tax.

Note: DAN is not the only business that has such shipping restrictions. I have directly contacted some business and asked they could use USPS instead. They would not. I continued my search.

That said, a bandanna and a stick make a good tourniquet.

Title should be "Using Apple Pay express checkout, caveat emptor!"

I have reached many checkouts in online shopping and turned back after seeing the shipping charge.

Randy at Piranha Dive Mfg will quote pretty high shipping costs on his web page and then return anything above his actual cost. Pretty remarkable and commendable for an online retailer.

I agree with all above. I learned my lesson about clicking Apple Pay BEFORE I get to the total charges page.

I have to give DAN their props. When I later created a dummy order and got to shipping, regular shipping (5-7 days) was ~ $20, and next day delivery was around $21.50. I wrote DAN about this and without my asking, they refunded the shipping charge. I also see regular shipping is now a bit more reasonable.
