Opinion: Diving without a DM (or instructor, etc.)

I think I had about 20 dives, right after my ow cert, before I dove with a DM/instructor around. My dives were in similar areas to where I had done my OW dives and I dove with a good friend that had been a certified diver for a couple of years.
 
Not counting supervised "classroom" dives, my first dive with a DM was more than 6 years after I got AOW. If your C-card is worth the plastic it's printed on, you should be able to do a simple open water dive as an open water diver. If you can't, you should take it up with whomever certified that you could.

As long as you have a buddy. Not big on solo diving
 
TDI has a course, extended range, that teaches how to dive to 180' on air. They teach you -

Equipment requirements and configuration
Decompression options
Use of surface marker buoys
Buddy rescue
Narcosis checks and management

So you CAN dive to that depth and deaper on air.
