SeanQ, I've got news for you. Barracuda scared me and I'm the one who is supposedly dangerous. :)

I always know how much gas I have and how much my team members have. You don't have to be a DIR yes man in order to practice gas planning.

Sure, you can make a free ascent..that's not the problem. The problem is keeping the group together in a current that would rip your mask off if you turned your head. Yeah, you can make a free ascent into the gulf stream.

EDIT: Here's the stock description:

Barracuda and San Juan Reefs
Depth: 70-110 feet
Barracuda Reef is seldom visited due to rough conditions and currents of 3-10 knots even in good weather. Both of these reefs are younger and more virgin reefs. It takes an expert diver to explore these.

(Whistle blows...) "Foul!" DIR Team to the line for a one and one.

They're double-teaming me here. No foul!

Nothing that I said was DIR-specific. I'm not DIR nor do I claim to be. Last time I checked I merely expressed interest in the course.

I'm not trained in cave diving either. I feel I have a pretty good idea of the risks involved and why they are compounded by being untrained. Ergo, I don't cave dive.

Now, I given you a chance to pounce on me for diving Barracuda which really was a "trust me" dive and all we can do is harp on overheads when people have died diving Barracuda. I'm disappointed in you.
