I hate to add to this post, but the thread that implied climbing has set way of doing anything is crazy. many different knots and combinations of knots are acceptable as long as they are safe.

Thats true - I used to both rick and ice climb - although there are a few tried and proven knots that are univerally accepted amongst climbers - and are used to keep it simple and understood between climbers, to avoid mishaps and confusion. Such as the Figure 8, Clove Hitch, Overhand, Munter, etc.

I use DiveRite TPII w/ Wreck wings for single & twin tank diving.
I think this is the best way to go unless your a deep deep dives.

Simple question folks without the BS of debating DIR and everyone else...Please stick to the question here. I am am looking at moving from a vest style BC (Mares Frontier WI) to a back /rear inflate style of BC. I am looking at the OMS IQ and 65 # (?) double bladder. There is a difference of opininion on wehter they (it) works for singles. If you discount Pete's "taco" feeling (I dive in fresh water 99% ) will it work with some getting used too. Is there something better than OMS ??....I don't want the arguements of OMS is junk but such and such is better. I am asking is OMS an ok system. I will not in the near futer nor do I envision doing any different diving than strictly recreational limit diveing. Incidentally the reason I am thinking of changing is simply...I am 5'10" and weigh 275 +/- and I do not like the squeeze I get from the vest.........
Butch a simple SS backplate will allow you to remove some weight from your belt (especially if coupled with a heavy STA) as well as provide you with a more streamlined rig. Since you are diving (and only expect to be diving) recreationally with presumably single tanks I would recommend that you get the Halcyon Pioneer wing... the reason is that it is longer and narrower so that it only wraps up part way around the tank and is very streamlined... it doesn't flop around either... since you seem to want extra lift I would adivse that you get the 45# wing.... this will be more than enough... I personally use a 27# wing with a single steel 104 and a drysuit.
Both are roomy, and are designed around a single tank system. OMS is a great system, but are more designed for doubles. Use of a spreader plate and sta will make them quite servicable for single tanks though. Still, I feel you should exhaust looking at the other BCs before going with a tech rig.

Thanks go to Butch and UP for getting this post back to diving. With that said, I've been entertaining myself by keeping score. All diving aside, as that really didn't seem to be the issue. Pete wins. The original post is quoted above. Pete's answer was resonable. Rather than addressing the question, Roaky hijacked to thread with his "when will it end" comment. Go back and look. In that light all of Pete's anti points are valid. White hat goes to Pete. Black hat goes to Roaky. You want us new folkes to learn a better way of diving? Take a lesson from UP, Mike, Wendy and others. Lets see... where were we? SS back plate, 45# and 27# wing and an Oceanic Chute II or III.
