With their recent price drop, the Cochran EMC-20 (or EMC-16) [$600 & $400] is a nice readable screen and a robust computer. The wife grabbed it from me (I use it as a back-up to my Petrel), and loved it for recreational diving while in Florida. The daughter (young eyes) got her Mares Puck.

No. By the time I hold it far away enough to focus the letters (or the light) are way too small.you could just hold any wrist mount computer as close to your eyes as needed. Kidding a little.
Don't rule out the watch style over puck size. I don't think the size of the text is that much different. I use readers and can see my Geo just fine without any magnification in the water.
