Howdy do all. I'm a fella who got his NAUI Open Water certification way back in 91 at Southwest Texas State. It's an expensive hobby for us Texas folks! I haven't had a chance to use that certification since school, but now I'm looking to give it another shot. I figure you all might be a great source of info for me! Thanks in advance for any advice that gets thrown my way!! If one of you could fix the brown funk water in the Texas Gulf....that would be a great start!!!!

Welcome to the board scotzplace! I was in the same situation a few years back... got my cert close to the same time and then didn't dive for a long time. I took a refresher course before hitting the open water again, not sure how comfortable you feel with all the gear and getting back in, but I thought it was a good thing to do.
There are plenty O Texan's o the board - you can check the regional sections for more local info and to find a buddy in your area...

Too bad I can't do anything about the funky water...

Great advice, boney.

BTW, welcome back to the water, scotzplace! :thumb:

You may be able to get right in the water, but the refresher course will make sure you do. It will get you reacquainted with the equipment and procedures as well as giving you the comfort level you need. Welcome back to diving and SCUBA Board. You'll get some good advice here.

Howdy!

I just want to join the others in welcoming you to SB. Hope to get to know you around the forums. Be sure to check out our New To Scuba and Texas dive club forums.

Really, as long as you've been out, as rusty as those skills are, and as much as has changed, I'd really like to suggest starting over with a new OW class. Many do it that way after a long dry spell after little initial diving.

Completing your Profile and seperately - keeping your Dive Info up to date helps in future diving discussions. PM me if I can help you learn your way around.

:sunny Hi there scotzplace! My name is Matt. Welcome to Scuba Board! I came here looking for help with my diving dream. I’ve met a lot of nice divers and many helpful divers too. I think you will get the information you need from SB. I look forward to reading more of your posts about your diving adventures. If you’d like to chat, please PM me.

Take care from Matt. :chicken:

Hello scotzplace and welcome to Scubaboard! Everybody else gave the best advice already. Take a refresher course and have any old equipment looked over by a professional. Welcome back to diving. You'll love Scubaboard, so much info., so little time!

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

...and welcome back to diving! This is a great place to get reconnected to diving. You'll find lots of great information that you'll find valuable to getting restarted.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

Best wishes,
