Perhaps having a forum set aside for ecological discussion would be one solution?

Trinigordo:
Another don't touch the coral thread might not be a bad idea Catherine ;)

well, Trini they just don't provide much stimulation for people as intelligent and well spoken as you and I. ;) wow....half the world seems off limits at the moment.

No inuendo, no politics at all ,and no cursing with astericks. There may be no place for me.

I just got a very witty PM that I need TOS Fundies. Really, this is more strict that Sunday school.

Chilly,
I love my SUV for all other reasons you hate them. Conservation by itself only perpetuates the current issue. Greater usage increases demand, demand increases the prices, and higher prices force alternatives to be sought as less people are able to afford the fuel. The real trick is getting all of this to happen so that alternative fuels are able to come on line and become sustainable at the right price point in such a way that any economic impact sustained is relatively unnoticable. A solution for managing the future of fossil fuels and alternative energy correctly is years in the making, involving a diverse set of energy initiatives - oil, nuclear, hydrogen, etc. Everyone turning around today and buying a Civic or Prius will do nothing... Well, nothing more than perhaps feeling really, really good about yourself.
Regards,
MEL

OMG!!! Do you even believe what you think is "logic?" What you said makes no sense!

You're arguing that conservation does more harm than blindly using as much as you can?? OMG! We are currently moving away from gas vehicles, and there is a LOT of research going on to improve them. By reducing your gas consumption, you help take some money out of the oil companies pockets. Further, by purchasing cars that use alternate fuel sources (including hybrids), then you are telling the auto makers that you value these new alternatives. By doing this, they make more, dropping their prices, and allowing more people to buy in -- and also reducing the overall consumption of gas, and the burning of more fossil fuels.

Do you really believe an ounce of what you said?

Yeah, I'm sure that the more everyone consumes, the better off we all will be. Gimme a break!

Just a quick thought on an earlier post that you made concerning taxing low mileage vehicles at a higher rate, Catherine. If we as a nation decide to tax high oil consumption, the place to do it is at the pump, not on the dealer lot.

In my opinion, the reason that we need to increase domestic oil production is to decrease the amount of oil that we import, not neccesarily to reduce the price of it. Don't get me wrong, I sure wouldn't mind to see gas at $1.05 a gallon the next time I fill up, but not only is that not going to happen, if it did, it would only serve to move delay the inevitable. The only thing that will cause us to develop new sources of energy is the higher prices that we are presently paying.

hey, chill. You don't want to make our nice little debate look heated do you, Chilly?

hear hear

scubafool, I agree with you. because I know what finally effected my family. We started planning errands when the gas cost exceeded the cost of the item we were going to pick up.

Why is it that you some of you have to cross the line of TOS and get political?

You folks know better. Some of you have even admitted it.

I don't have time to pull the posts now, but those of you who have made political posts will have them pulled.

Continue on with the discussion, but lets keep the politics and the insults to yourselves. If you want to troll - you might want to pick up a rod and reel and try fishing because this is a troll free board.

i'd like to know which of the posts in this thread *aren't* political -- aside from the TOS ones and ocassional offtopic post?

if we're going to discuss diving, then really about all we can say is that they're 25 miles offshore and unless there's a spill (and discussion over the odds there will be inherantly political) then the legislation has nothing to do with diving. i don't understand why the thread is still here on a diving board that claims to ban political discussion. as long as the thread is here, though, i'll continue to post politically, since its a political thread.

Why not? There are sensible posts, which may differ from your view, but they make you think. And then there are some posts that you just have to say: Are you on drugs? That's what I thought of the previous poster.

Don't worry, I've noticed many of your posts through various threads, and you're definitely not on any (hard) drugs. You actually usually make a lot of sense. Keep it up.
