Everyone, make sure you commit Andy's song to memory. He just PM'd me, he is bringing his guitar, and expects us to be able to sing along with him.

He just PM'd me

:11:

ah, like, not true?

i am bringing my guitar, and hopefully people will be willing to sing!

the more i drink, the worse i get at guitar playing... so you guys have about an hour's window of opportunity before i fall in the river, guitar and all

Wouldn't it be easier to print it out???:D

on waterproof paper. Andy'll play, someone will sing and the rest of us will dance, all in the ballroom. Saturday morning will be the river cleanup, saturday night will be mind cleanup.

On another note. I got this email from Tom who works at the shop at Ginnie (he will be there on Sunday). He told me it is ok to repost, if anybody is interested in their clean up.
I hope Cathy( Group manager) is doing some sort of deal for the group for helping out. I think sometimes in the past they have given a free pass out or something like that. Everyone who did the cleanup except a couple of employees were cave divers or cave diving instructors. I could not post anything about just how much we picked up on line but we got 6 or 7 canoes full of junk. Mark the owner wanted cave divers since we have double tanks and are used to current. We did the section from the Devils Eye to the end. I recommend that everyone be heavy to help deal with the current. Also I recommend that you wear light gloves so you can hold on to rocks when picking stuff up. We had regular lobster bags and some with metal handles. The metal handles worked best for me. Some people used double enders and clipped the bottom off to the bottom d ring and the top to the top d ring and carried them like stages. I was not very successful doing it that way but some said it worked great. I did find the bags themselves get caught on the rocks so I'd find a bad area and set mine down and bring stuff to them. I also had a friend that used a reef hook on a short line so he hook in and had it clipped off so he had both hands free.

One other think [thing] everybody needs is a least one knife or line cutter. I found monofilament and rope down there that you could get hung on. I did get my dive flag tangled in the rope so bad that I had to untie it to get it free.

Hmmmm, might wanna bring ear plugs ..... for the campfire singing, eh?

Mebbe we just need the catchy flash animation to go along with it ... like ...

So, if I've never done a river dive and infact only have a few dives under my belt, am I going to die on saturday?

really though, how hard will it be to dive in current?

And the suggestion is to be overweighted? Ok....maybe I'll have to buy some more weight :)

you'll be fine. the current simply pushes you along a bit faster, so you have to keep an eye on your exit or you'll miss it.

SAFETY WARNING

follow more experienced divers and head in when they do and you'll be ok =)

SAFETY WARNING

If you miss your exit, you'll head into Colombian River Otter Liberation Brigade territory, who are known to shoot trespassers on sight. if you get past the otters, you'll have to deal with Scubafool's relatives and their idea of Deliverance

If it's a moderate current (as in, not *quite* mask-rippingly swift) and it's a rocky bottom, it's not too hard. With rocks, you can just "climb" along the bottom. If it's sand, it's a bit more complicated, and if it's a Louisiana silt-"bottomed" river... well... how about a pair of mushroom anchors, maybe? :D

You're quite unlikely to die as long as you neither hold your breath on ascent nor come up right beside an ungodly-large person and reflexively gasp in sheer unbridled horror deeply enough to aspirate half the river and drown (although if it's cool enough, that risk is mitigated somewhat). Oh, and I suppose having some EMT shears and a knife could be rather useful in an entanglement situation (your buddy can help, too).

As for being overweighted... um... can you attach a 25-lb barbell weight to a BC? :D

Does anyone know about how many ppl will be at the clean-up dive? Me and my girlfriend have a 80% chance of being there for the dive.....a few of my non diving friends will be there camping/ getting wasted so I will be staying with there group except for most of the dives.

But a diving friend of mine wants to go but has no buddy and hes scared he will be stuck with-out a parner. I was wondering if there would be a good chance of him finding a buddy there?
