So, if I've never done a river dive and infact only have a few dives under my belt, am I going to die on saturday?

You will be fine ... nice shallow river ... stick with your buddy/group and pick up some trash

Just watch out for those Rabid River Otters (tm) ... 30 lbs extra for ammo ...
maybe a baseball bat (put about 3 lbs on it for proper buoyancy eh?)

Now, IF we printed the infamous afore posted lyrics on these big flash
cards, then I bring along a glowing ball on a fishin' pole ...
we could do some serious Sing-Along With Mitch routines.

when you drift down the river, you will observe male and female ... er... locals floating about with beer, cigarettes, and sometimes portable stoves

do NOT do anything that may suggest to said locals that you are

a. tryin' to steal their wimmen

or

b. tryin' to lead their menfolk astray

ok?

I was waiting to see the lift bag attached to it too. For counter-weight...
