Hey guys and gals,

I recently bought myself a new Oceanic Geo Air with integrated air. I like the look of the computer and I like not having another hose to get tangled on when donning my gear on the boat. However, I dive with a university based dive club so the procedures are pretty strict and we must provide NDL time before we get in the water. That being said, it was a good thing I had my old computer on me for my dives yesterday because I couldn't get my NDL to resemble a sensible time.

I go into the dive plan menu - (today it doesn't even have the option for anything below 17.3m)
(I'm in Australia, so all of these are metric)
2.7 - 4:43
3.6 - 2:25
4.6 - 1:25
5.4 - 0:59
6.4 - 0:42
7.3 - 0:32
8.2 - 0:26
9.1 - 0:20
10.0 - 0:17
10.9 - 0:14
11.9 - 0:11
12.8 - 0:09
13.7 - 0:08
14.6 - 0:07
15.5 - 0:07
16.4 - 0:06
17.3 - 0:05

So, what am I missing in my setup that prevents me from planning on the surface?
Setting the computer up from the app seems to apply the same settings to the computer, from what I can see. Planning can only be done on the computer.

Menu

Time:
Pretty generic - time format, date format, alternate location time, dual time and default location.

Gas:
All 3 set up as Air

Alarm:
Audible: ON
Max Depth: 30m
elapsed dive time (min): 60
Dive time remaining (min): 5
Max Nitrogen bar Graph: OFF
Turn Pressure: OFF
End Pressure: 50Bar

Utility:
Units: Metric
Conservative factor: OFF
Deep stop: OFF
Algorithm (NDL Basis): DSAT
Safety Stop: ON
Safety Stop Time(min): 3
Safety Stop depth(m): 5
Dive sample rate: 15secs
Backlight Duration: 5secs
1 Transmitter set up - Air only

I don't want to have to continue to carry two computers all the time - although I understand it is sometimes good to carry a spare as a redundant backup. (yesterday was the perfect example of doing this but I only had it in case I couldn't work something out on the Geo)

Pics of the computer attached and a bonus from yesterday's dive.

These are the NDLS after an almost 24hr sit?? Wow. What dives did you do in prior day of diving?

2 dives - both less than 14m - first 42mins and the second 47 mins.... Those are the same numbers I had yesterday morning before my first dive (from what I can recall). This is why I'm seeking help. I'm holding onto hope of the dive community helping me because I fear the retailer may wash their hands and who knows what Oceanic are going to be like. My old Veo 1.0 will let me plan down to 57 minutes and still have 5 minutes of bottom time.

The only thing I'm seeing (or not seeing) is your PO2 setting in either the settings you listed or in the images you have on your OP. I don't have the Geo Air, but I do dive the OCi and the PO2 displays on the screen when in plan mode. If it has the same menu structure as my OCi, you would go into dive mode settings and access your Set Gas settings. Scroll down to SET and use your select button to scroll to the PO2, then use the ADV button to set it to where you want it (usually 1.4.)

I don't know if this is what is wrong, but like I said, it's the only thing I am seeing that doesn't look right.

Good luck.

I wonder if the pressure sensor has an issue and thinks you're diving at an unrealistic altitude.

Well, I got to playing with my OCi some more and it does seem like when it is set to air, it does not show the PO2 when in Dive Plan mode. However, when I went into the Set Gas where I can change the PO2 and set the gas at 21%, it allows me to take it down to a PO2 of 1.0. That gives me a Max depth of 124 ft. or 37.8m. The only way I can duplicate what your computer is telling you is to have the PO2 set at 1.0 with a gas mix of 32%. You may want to play with the gas mix/PO2 settings to see if that makes any kind of difference.

I don't know what is happening with your Geo Air, but at this point, I'm thinking it may be defective. Unless you can find a setting that you have overlooked and haven't set yet, you may want to get this one repaired or replaced under warranty.

Hi @shannond100

There is nothing wrong with your settings. In fact, the NDLs are all correct from between 9 and 57 m. The problem appears to be with the depths displayed in the planner, 2.7-17.3 m. Of course, I have no idea why this is happening and it may be a defect in your computer. Before giving up, I would switch to imperial units and check whether the planner still has wacky depths. Then switch back to metric units and try again. If the problem persists, at least you will know what to tell your dive shop. Since it was defective from the start, I would think they should simply exchange it for a working computer and deal with the return to Oceanic themselves. Best of luck.

I would have though, since I’m only diving air, not nitrox, I shouldn’t need to worry about PO2.

I have tried it in imperial and you are correct. It works happily if feet.
