Hey guys and gals,

I recently bought myself a new Oceanic Geo Air with integrated air. I like the look of the computer and I like not having another hose to get tangled on when donning my gear on the boat. However, I dive with a university based dive club so the procedures are pretty strict and we must provide NDL time before we get in the water. That being said, it was a good thing I had my old computer on me for my dives yesterday because I couldn't get my NDL to resemble a sensible time.

I go into the dive plan menu - (today it doesn't even have the option for anything below 17.3m)
(I'm in Australia, so all of these are metric)
2.7 - 4:43
3.6 - 2:25
4.6 - 1:25
5.4 - 0:59
6.4 - 0:42
7.3 - 0:32
8.2 - 0:26
9.1 - 0:20
10.0 - 0:17
10.9 - 0:14
11.9 - 0:11
12.8 - 0:09
13.7 - 0:08
14.6 - 0:07
15.5 - 0:07
16.4 - 0:06
17.3 - 0:05

So, what am I missing in my setup that prevents me from planning on the surface?
Setting the computer up from the app seems to apply the same settings to the computer, from what I can see. Planning can only be done on the computer.

Menu

Time:
Pretty generic - time format, date format, alternate location time, dual time and default location.

Gas:
All 3 set up as Air

Alarm:
Audible: ON
Max Depth: 30m
elapsed dive time (min): 60
Dive time remaining (min): 5
Max Nitrogen bar Graph: OFF
Turn Pressure: OFF
End Pressure: 50Bar

Utility:
Units: Metric
Conservative factor: OFF
Deep stop: OFF
Algorithm (NDL Basis): DSAT
Safety Stop: ON
Safety Stop Time(min): 3
Safety Stop depth(m): 5
Dive sample rate: 15secs
Backlight Duration: 5secs
1 Transmitter set up - Air only

I don't want to have to continue to carry two computers all the time - although I understand it is sometimes good to carry a spare as a redundant backup. (yesterday was the perfect example of doing this but I only had it in case I couldn't work something out on the Geo)

Pics of the computer attached and a bonus from yesterday's dive.

I have tried it in imperial and you are correct. It works happily if feet.

Did you switch back to metric to see if problem still persists? You should because if it still persists, take it back to the shop.

Swapped back to metric and it reverts back to its bad habits. I didn’t get a key for the battery cover with it so I’ll have to fashion something tonight on the 3d printer to remove the battery. And you guessed right, I want it in metric.

Based on your narrative, I'd take it back to the shop and get a replacement.

You really should have received a battery door key with the purchase. Careful you don't harm the two holes. I don't think it very likely that removing the battery for a while will correct the problem, but you never know.

Persoanlly, I would return the computer to the shop, describe the specific problem, complain you didn't get a battery door key, and exchange it for one that works perfectly.

Look forward to hearing about resolution of this issue

Probably doesn't help, but it looks like it's "double converting" from imperial to metric.

:05 NDL should be 190 feet or 57 meters. The depths displayed on yours is actually 190ft / 3.3 = 57m, but then / 3.3 again = 17.3m (close enough with rounding anyway)

Same at :20 NDL: 9.1 meters * 3.3 * 3.3 = 100 feet

If it's new, certainly easiest to just exchange for another one. Aother option would be updating the firmware, if the PC allows you to do so.

This ^^^^^^

I wouldn't mess with the computer, just take it back to the shop and let them sort it out. Don't give them any reason to deny that it was defective from the factory, if it is, and blame you for it.

So... an update on my computer for those who are interested.

My LDS got in contact with his contact that does his repairs. I sent him a heap of photos of what the computer was doing, made tables of the data it was giving me and compared them to my old Oceanic Veo computer.

They agreed that there was something wrong, so they sent me a new computer. It too suffered the same issue. Sent the data back to the tech and it got forwarded on to the engineers at Oceanic.

Long story short - A new firmware version has been released (Ver 1C for those playing at home) which resolves this issue of the metric planning. Took about 10 minutes to download all of my dive profiles, update the firmware, then restore the dive profiles again. Very easy process.

Sent an email off to all parties involved last night - got an email back from my LDS (who still have no vested interest in this) at like 5:30am - well before opening time. So shout out to Jeremy at Adreno in Wooloongabba, Brisbane who went above and beyond for me. Much appreciated. And thanks to Justin at AUP for getting the info through to the right people to get this fixed.

I am happy with my computer again... just need to get back out on the water to try it out.

Adding to this thread, because I have a different problem with geo air, and I wonder if anyone has any suggestions (or whether I am wrong).

My geo air, in "plan air" section, always shows the same no deco times, regardless of previous dives. For example, in the morning before the first dive

0) make sure computer is set to "air / 21%"
1) go to "plan air"
2) select depth 30 meters
3) observe no deco time: 20 minutes
4) go diving. Yesterday I dived 39meters. Total dive time approx 30 minutes
5) end dive. Observe 4.5hrs dsat, 24h no fly
6) wait for 16 minute surface interval
6) go to "plan air'
7) observe 30m: 20 min no deco time (this I think is bug nr 1 - shouldn't this be lower?).
8) go diving after 1.5hrs surface interval. Approx 18-20m.
9) end dive
10) wait 16 min surface interval
11) go to dive planning (plan air). Observe that 30meter no deco time still shows 20 minutes
12) (I believe bug nr 2): observe that dsat time shows 0hrs 0 minutes

Does this sound normal? My computer is on default settings, which should use DSAT algorithm.
