My Oceanic dust cap is like a cup on the inside, not flat like other dust caps I've seen. Therefore, it seems like it could hold a couple of drops of water where as a flat one would hold almost no water. Obviously, I have to be carefull putting it on to make sure no water is in there, but why would Oceanic make a cap that could hold water?

Anyone notice that?

Also, for long term storage, cap on or cap off?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not too sure why they made them that way. To make sure I didn't get any droplets, I'd either blow in it real hard or dab the inside with my towel before putting it back on. Assuming all is dry, I'm going to say leaving the dust cap on for long term storage is the way to go.

I guess you are taking about reg. dust caps. I just blow mine dry with tank air and on the go. I hope long term issue is not a problem, but I have not been diving long enough to have anything stored for long LOL

There are after market dust caps that use the same o-ring to seal as the o-ring used in tanks. My Atomics came with a weird spherical sort of dust cap that wasn't totally watertight, but the aftermarket one with a real o-ring keeps out the water nicely.

A nice side benefit is that if I want a replacement o-ring in a hurry just before splashing in, the dust cap o-ring is right there.

If my reg is in a nice relatively clean closet, then I leave the dust cap off to dry out any water that I might have accidently got inside the 1st stage. If it's a real long term storage, then I'll put the dust cap back on after a week or so.

I usually just use a shot of air from the tank after the dive to blow out access water from my dust cap. As for long term storage, I cant answer that. I try to dive often enough where long term just means until the following weekend.

I always store my regs with the dust cap on to prevent any moist air or other things getting inside.

The one with the o-ring looks like a little juice glass, and will hold water, too. I found that out looking at the filter on a reg. Maybe filling the little juice glass with aqua seal might help.

There used to be one shaped like a ball. Seemed ideal. Can I still get one?

Oceanic made the cap that way to accomodate both yoke and din regs. Some of their regulators are available both ways.

If you have a first stage with DVT, don't worry about water drops, just blow the big ones out and you're fine.

I'm pretty sure they recommend leaving the cap on whenever the reg is not on a tank.

My buddy bought the new Oceanic and it came with that stupid dust cap. I can see no reason not to use a solid chunk of hard rubber that has no recess within which to store water. I hope the inside is engineered better than the outside of that reg. I think scuba pro recently started selling an equally ill-designed cap.
