Aloha All

I think we are doing exactly what PW1981 was talking about.

LOL, thats precicely it. LOL

Its not so much the volunteering of information, its the declaration that it is better than everything else and trying to 'sell' the idea to people.

It is sort of funny. Maybe I will start touting Spare Air at every opportunity. (Note, I think Spare Air is dumb, but its the same concept.)

This has inspired me to make a new signature :)

With all due respect to the experience of all the diver that use a BP/Wings and while appreciating the fact that you want to prevent others from making the same mistakes you did but what if this kind of help is not asked?
It reminds me of the overly eager scout that is trying to help an old lady across the street, the only problem is that the lady didn't want to cross the street.....
If somebody is asking for an advise about a specific item, it is nice to answer the question if possible and not what you may think to be a better option. You could add a comment about the BP/Wings if you want but at least answer the question asked.
This is completely different if it is a general question like: What should I buy? than by all means, go ahead and bombard the member with BP/Wing suggestions ;)
Just my 2 Cents

While I constantly hear the BP/W mantra (getting to be almost as bad as the DIR mantra), I find that there is an alternative that I prefer so far... the soft backpack and wings (for example the SB X-Tek).

I started diving in the 60's without a BCD, only a backpack. Switched to a jacket style BCD in the late 80's. They were acceptable because I didn't try anything else.

Once I started videotaping four years ago, I needed a BCD that fit more snuggly and didn't shift around while I was filming. I also needed to evacuate the air completely to ensure that I was stable on the bottom while filming.

I bought a used X-Tek with a Trav-Tek wing and fell in love with it. It fit my needs. In fact I just bought a second one with the Rec-Tek and Sport-Tek wings for a mere $255 total on E-Bay (and it was brand new).

Even better... I can always buy a metal backplate and use the same wings on it. The best of all worlds.

My jacket style BCD's are gathering dust in my SCUBA locker, but I keep them for visitors.

Hey, no hitting below the belt. We are NOTHING like the DIR!
HAHAHAHAHA

BP/W people are the equivalent of the 'Romulins', but we have nothing in common with 'The Borg'. LOL

Ok, relax. I mean no offense.
I was making a funny! Please do not get offended. We all know who we are, lets just admit it.

I'm a romulin, and I'm proud. LOL

Assume you asked me if you should buy "car A" or "car B", which were similar to what you used in driver's ed, and which the only dealership you asked assured you were both very good and very popular.

If I had had a bunch of problems with those sorts of cars, but knew of a "car C" that had better gas mileage, better performance, was so reliable you'd never need a mechanic, had all the available options you could want, and cost about the same as the other two choices, wouldn't you want me to mention it?

That's sort of how I feel about diving with a BP/Wing. I've owned my share of other BCDs, but I'm convinced it's a much better value and a much more versatile and enjoyable option than any comparably priced jacket or back-inflate system. If you ask about something similar to things I've had less than satisfactory experiences with, my natural inclination is to share my best solution.

Some divers say they don't want one, but that may only be because they haven't yet realized that they really do. ;)
I wasn't interested in one either, until I eventually realized it was exactly what I'd wanted all along.

Oh yeah, and I never met, interacted with, or recieved any checks from JJ, despite what the great anonymous IndigoBlue might have you believe.

Ah, yes. A fellow Romulin. HAHAHA

I agree with you, and I understand.

Can't we be like storm troopers or Sith instead? Or bounty hunters. Yeah that's it, I want to be Boba Fett!

In a scenario where someone asks for comparrisons of more than one product then, by all means, you could suggest it if you have something negative to say about the specific products asked about. My statements were that these comments are intejected in EVERY post; simply replying to a BC question that is unrelated in any way to a BP&W is a waste. My initial post links to a thread about weights and whether to go with integrated or belt... the first reply commands that a BP&W will solve the world's problems. :banghead:

Or, if I were to ask how people like a particular BC, then it is safe to presume that I want to know how people like a particular BC.

Get where I am going there? Don't try to answer questions that aren't asked :11:
