So I have a dan O2 kit that belongs to the scuba club at UT and I need to get it filled and hydro-ed. The problem is that the only dive shop in austin that I have found wants 50 bucks to hydro the tank and another 50 to oxygen clean it. The price of a brand spankin new jumbo D cylinder on the DAN website cost 115 dollars. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get the cylinder hydro-ed and possible cleaned and filled so that it won't cost me as much as buying an entire new cylinder?

AAA Fire & Safety Equipment in Austin do hydros for something like $20 . They are actually pretty close to UT.

PM "Zinc" on this board. He might consider O2 cleaning it for you. How soon do you need it doing? We are planning a winter tank cleaning party before too long, might be able to do it myself for you if you can wait a few weeks. (I work at UT.)

Don't dick with a dive shop. Send it to Airgas or wherever you get it normally filled. They'll send it out and return it filled. O2 cleaning is for cylinders that don't normally have O2 in them. For a dedicated cylinder, O2 cleaning is standard after hydro.

Ian, do you have an address for AAA fire and safety? I've been trying to find them online but I can't find so much as an address or phone number.

I went over to airgas today to try and get the tank hydro-ed and filled but they seemed really reluctant to fill it even if I had them send it off to get hydro-ed. I think what I'm going to try and do is have AAA hydro it and then let the shop fill it just to avoid having to convince a gas supply that they can fill the tank for me. I'm going to ask about the O2 cleaning when I get it hydro tested and if they do in fact clean them after testing then I should be set. If not, it would be awesome if you guys could clean it for me. Obviously I would pay for any cost of cleaning the tank and any fee you guys think is appropriate for cleaning it.

What kind of internet are you looking at. I Googled AAA Fire and Safety Austin and Google came up with the following.

So it only cost me all of 17 dollars to get the tank hydro-ed at AAA and I dropped it off at scubaland to get filled today. Thanks for the help, saved the club a lot of money.

They had a bunch of scuba cylinders in the shop so I would assume they were testing them. It might cost a little more than what I payed since my o2 cylinder was fairly small. I don't know why size would matter for pricing a hyrdo test but its the only factor I can think of that might make it a little more for a full size cylinder.

i was more concerned about the pressure. whether or not they had the equipment and approval to test cylinders to 5000 - 6000 psi. i'll call them next week.
