Be prepared to pop about $150 extra for the bike, each way in eXtra bagage fees on a US airline. I hauled one down the year before last year for the 'Cubano' (Who qualified for Australia in September ).

Will you be travelling with a bike AND dive gear? That will get old fast if you are doing a Cancun-Cozumel bag drag.

No bike. Separate transport. But add a few race things to the regular dive bag and camera gear and it starts getting heavier.

Also if you book on the website, you will pay MORE. I buy at the office between Mega and Ched. I guess you can call there?

Chief,
I have read the details on how to get to the Mayair terminal in CUN (thanks for the link in another thread) but I didn't see where to purchase a ticket in cash there. Can you buy a round trip in peso's at the CUN airport (for CUN to CZM and then back)?
Thanks,
John

Finally spoke to United and it looks like--oddly-- United is not flying the CZM-IAH-LAX route on Mondays in December 2016 (and maybe Wednesdays). You can fly the route on Tuesdays, or Sundays, and also Mondays in November.

Seems it would be a popular enough route to have every day service, especially wintertime.

On the other hand, you can get a round trip ticket flying first class LAX - CZM and coach return for $700 (i.e first class for the red eye and connecting)

Schedules are just guesses this far out. They can change their plans after you ticket. They know what their general plan is tho. Maybe they need that plane for another route one day a week?

Nice price on First Class. You can save enough on luggage fees to offset the upgrade maybe?

You can buy a single or a round trip at the airport, no problem. As long as the flight isn't full which probably isn't going to be a problem. Just get out of airport, and have the Lomas guys check on the radio when the next flight leaves and if there is a seat.

Boy, you weren't kidding.... I booked back then because of the great first class deal.... Booked to return through IAH in coach ( :( ) on Tuesday 12/6. Got an email last Friday with a schedule change. Better connection going down and get in 3 hours earlier

Coming back, these were the new flights:
Dec 7 (*wednesday*) CZM - IAH
Dec. 6 - IAH - LAX.

Doh! Come on United. Seems they now don't fly from CZM on Tuesdays, but no one obviously checking connections.

Resolution after a contentious hour on the phone was a nonstop from CUN - LAX 12/6 which, despite the bag drag, is a bit better than the IAH connection I guess (or so I rationalize). They wouldn't budge on any upgraded seats though.

Did you ask them to explain how to do that? What gate for the time tunnel, and would the bags make the same time hop?

Looking on Matrix (always because I don't trust company sites, there is no United December 6 flight CZM-IAH, now. They sold seats for one, then canceled it, it seems. American & Delta can do it, with a connection on the way to Houston. You could have come home on the 7th, but I guess that's not an option.

They should refund you ferry, bus, and meal costs for that morning.

I'm getting lined up for a trip in August 2017, flying 5 of us Lubbock to Rapid City, returning from Idaho Falls - and I plan to book on September 21 as soon as they open bookings that far. I've already booked 4 nights at Yosemite, will be adding 2 more in South Dakota and Montana - so there won't be much room for change in our little 4 state adventure. It'll be interesting to see what they pull on us, but since it's domestic - we can hope. We're already taking a principal and two kids out of the first week of school, so coming back a day late is not cool, and no way would we dream of returning a day earlier, missing the eclipse! Going a day earlier would be difficult, but going a late later would ruin our plan. I had a hard time booking for the park 14 months in advance, had to settle for second choice on lodging, so I'd hate to try changing later. Travel is such an adventure.
