I can afford to buy whatever I decide I need, so cost isn’t a big deal, getting value and utility for my money is my concern. I’m a newbie, considering whether just to keep renting a computer, or buying one that I can get familiar with. I’ll probably never venture beyond recreational diving on air, realistically. Sure diving is fun, but it’s a means to an end for not an end in itself. I just enjoy being underwater and seeing the ecology. I can do that at fairly shallow depths, and I’m fine with that. So, what kind of dive computer is best? Something ultra, simple and intuitive cost is not a factor. Appropriate for what I need it for. Preferably including AI because that is convenient. Thanks!

im in your ball park i own a i300 aqualung and it works really well the reason im thinking of upgrading is for the led part of it in low light i prefer diving the tropics but thats once a year for a week so i like getting time in up here in canada but that means low visibility and my dive buddy has an led screen and boy its nice just to glance at it without putting a flashlight on it .in the tropics the i300 works great

Wow. We’re back to equipment as “lifesaving stuff”. Who woulda thunk that my Perdix is there to save my life? I guess my SPG is too. Crap argument.

My Perdix nearly killed me, or rather my wife did when she found the receipt!

yup, big purchases need big justifications, especially when whatever you already have works.

Support your home country, get a Shearwater. They are very friendly for the recreational diver. Just because they can do technical stuff doesn't mean they bad for a recreational diver. I have one that is 5 years old and I could sell it for 75% of what I paid for it. Name one other piece of dive gear or consumer electronics that holds its value so well. That is a sign of how good they are.

I use it for extra safety and convenience.

I compared an expensive diving computer to an iPhone because people these days don’t know what their priorities are and an expensive cell phone will not do **** for you underwater.

People would buy a $1500 cell phone but go cheap on a diving computer. I don’t get it.

When I said 'big' I meant the $10k new tv not the $1k version, and the $100k new car, not the $10k one.

anyways, there's plenty of computers out there of various price and features ranges which get the job done.
