jon, ride must be pretty smooth eh? :D what do the other guys (spoon, pak, larry) use?

@pak: I'm assuming you're using aluminum, how is it? how much weight do you have on?

thanks

EDIT: wow! you guys reply fast, didn't even finish typing this reply and all my questions were already answered :D:D:D

why would you not want to go in without ditchable weight??!?!?!

that makes no sense.

If the SS is enough to keep you down then what diff would ditchable make?!?!

You can swim up the SS backplate no problemo if ever you had that catastrophic failure of your bladder (i mean the one in your wings.. )

@pak: thanks, that I think would be the best setup for me
@mike: the ditchable weights would be for surface problems (and i'd only need them if I got the aluminum, me thinks) :blinking:
@caloy: i've been lurking @ the DIR forum for quite a few hours now, strangley there are a lot of discussion over ditchable vs non-ditchable weights there... :blinking:

oh oh... I want one of 'em brokeback moments too... :eyebrow:

i was joking, mike.

i have had no ditachable weights for years, no need for em.

remember you are in the tropics with thin suit, you aren't diving in cold water with 30 odd pounds of weight like the majority of people who post on SB.

So, we don't have the probs they have..

for the record, i use 6lbs with my brand spanking new 5mm :)

but i do this everyday, you will need more when you are starting out.

8-10 lbs total for a 3mm is good, you will drop more as you progress

Here's what I use...STA, 30lb wing, SS BP, and 6 lbs of non-ditchable weight on the tank, wearing a 5mm 2-piece suit. That's for diving here in Sydney.

Will be using an STA, 30lb wing, Ally BP and ?? lbs of non ditchable weight on the tank, wearing a 3mm 1-piece suit for the islands.

Never had a need to ditch weights, except for class.
