I’d take the deal (esp with US SP prices); if you really wanna avoid DIY, reach out to @rsingler to service it (I’m doubtful an LDS would be able to, but you might get lucky)
I've had a D350 and D400 both serviced in two area shops. As long as they can get the service manual and parts, and parts are still available (as of a couple of weeks ago).

Where did you buy your parts from? Or perhaps the shop had them already ?

Shops both ordered them from Scubapro (I know because it took forever to get them). The D350/D400 parts kit is still available. I've got another D400 and have 1 kit myself. I plan to learn with it when I have time for the regulator workshop by @rsingler. I actually had to provide one of the shops the service manual because they apparently could not find that on Scubapro's site.

Ok thanks. Maybe I should look into that class as well then. I have two D400 on the way to my house right now so I'm in it to win it now :p

One complication with the D400 is there are two versions: one with a metal orifice like the D350 and and a later model with a plastic orifice. The metal is preferred, but the plastic is OK, also. Different service kits required.

Did the service kit have any orings for the orifice? IIRC it haf only the poppet and the square oring for the predive switch

There's a variety of service kits for the D400 that I have a hard time keeping up with. That's one of the reasons why I send mine out.
If you're smart You'll take that square o-ring (oxymoron much?) and lose it if the dive/pre-dive switch is moving properly. Reportedly the most frustrating part of servicing the older D series regs once you get the cover off.
Much thanks to @rsingler:

I've obtained my D350s and D400s on ebay. What I specifically look for is the dive/predive switch is square and not beat up, indicating use and care. Most importantly, the rubber cover maintains some shine, is not stretched out, and has no micro cracking or ragged appearance due to poor care and excessive exposure to the sun. If the rubber cover fails the regulator is virtually worthless.
