I would rather french kiss a lionfish than to connect through ORD
Wow. I knew you have a love affair with lionfish but to publicly offer to French kiss one! I'm impressed!

Cheers - M²

To me the bag drag is no big deal. I just make it part of the vaction. Van ride to playa with beverage of choice. Leisurely ferry ride to Coz very relaxing. Then 5 minutes to hotel easy & fun for me.

@tridacna .... cancun to coz (bagdrag) is actually quite easy. It might actually end up being much cheaper than flying to coz. Also if you take in to account the time of layover while changing flights, it actually is the same time if not less. Lot of options to get to PDC ferry from airport from ADO buses to private transportation, Easy 45 min ferry ride over to coz and taxi from there to your hotel. Plenty of videos showing how to do it. Here is one which I like -

It definitely is a well discussed topic and people have their personal preferences. I for one do not mind bag drag one bit in order to save few hundred $$ in between myself and mrs. Either ways get there and have fun.

This is an INCREDIBLY useful post! Tons of flights from EWR to Cancun for low $! Thanks!!!

@tridacna ... you are very welcome. The total time from landing in Cancun to getting to coz will be between 2.5 - 3.5 hours depending on few factors. Just remember to look at last ferry in and first ferry out times. I try to get to Cancun by afternoon and while coming back try to take an afternoon flight so I am not rushing each way. Also if you have 13 - 15 people you might want to look at few reputable transfer companies for private transportation each way as it would be quite reasonable with such a large group. If you have any other questions, let us know happy to assist.

Vic - you saved my a$$. Definitely going to do bag drop. Flight leaves Newark at 7am- gets into Cancun around 10:30am. Should be at hotel around 2pm. Really sweet.

I guess only risk is on way back in case ferry is canceled. Does that happen often?

This is no brainer..... easily you will be at the hotel by 2. Get settled and enjoy Coz.

I don't believe this happens often at all. May be during hurricanes but not otherwise. Winds which cancel diving do not affect the ferries as they are big boats and cross all the times. I don't think this would be an issue at all unless you are going in peak of hurricane season. And even then airlines work with you in that case.

Only thing I would watch out for is not to take a really early morning flight from cancun. First ferry out is 5 AM I believe. As I mentioned earlier I would look at afternoon flight from Cancun as this will make your coming back more comfortable. Also I saw you are looking in April for your trip, Book with confidence I think there is no chance of ferry getting cancelled.
