I agree, I am lucky to have learned this lesson while just going through my certification dives!

I remember a group of guys on the boat comparing regulators (which is fine) but while comparing they started to argue and bicker about this and that....

I realized right then and there that I never wanted to be those guys....I mean here we are on a reef at sea going diving, and I have to listen to some moron get angry when someone else on the boat doesn't give him mad respect because of his ubber expensive regulator.

I keep runing into these folks from time to time, but the only thing I make sure to do is not be paired up with them on a dive boat. I love diving because I get to get away from the loud world full of people, I don't like them getting in the way of my FUN & Relaxation!

What's this about Lie Neilson? When you've said "Lie Neilson," you've said it all! A joy to use.

Finally! A fellow ____worker!

Pssst - Don't tell the others of our other passion!

Been waiting for quite a while to see type of comment. And couldn't agree with it more! To all the 0-24 or 100-199 or 499-999 (like me), or "I'm a fish", etc. ego-centric, opinionated, LDS instructor quoting, know-it-all, "experts" who don't know enough to realize they don't know it all: "Pardon him, Theodotus: he is a barbarian, and thinks the customs of his tribe and isalnd are the laws of nature."-GBS
Thanks, Teamcasa

Opinions are important. Opinions are vital. The conclusions one puts forth may not always be correct or supported with facts, and opinions are often mistaken for strong assertuions, or worse: numbed down with "I believe...." or "I think...." or "I feel...."

Be declarative, you ninny. Own it.

I'd rather have a conversation with an opinionated person any day than some waffle-ing, flip flopping, no-take, no opinion, soft, limp, squishy turd.

If a person can't think an issue through, formulate an arguement, defend it with reason, logic and wit - they should just go back to go back to golf or chess or radio club or some other mindless activity.

Even if I don't agree with your conclusions, my mind can be changed.

If you're right, and you haven't sold me, its not my fault that I think you're wrong. Its yours.

Take another swing at it. But don't wilt, don't come in soft, and don't make it personal. Sell it, defend it, make me think you've put some thought into your take. Even if I think you're all wet, if you've thought it through I'll respect you.

I love strongly opinionated people. Even the half-wits. Passion is much more rare than intellegence. I'll take passion everytime, as when a passionate person hits a home run, they share the lovin. Passion ignites. Intellect alone is a snoozer.

Hey, Ken... I'm both opinionated and passionate (if she ever gives me a chance). It just isn't worth alienating or offending others most of the time... but when it is, look out!

While I agree, a wake of dead bodies is never a good thing (and I learned long ago to temper my presentations to fall just short of my former scortched earth policy) a strong, defensable, well crafted opinion on a subject will only alienate the feeble.

Let them go to Starbucks and mope with the other black clad, spikey haired, metal-faced out of work actors.

Errr... Baristas.

I think Bertrand Russell said it best: "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts".

Passion may be great, but I wouldnt jump off a cliff just because the guy in front of me was passionate about doing it.
