I did some night snorkeling there. I forgot the name of the place we were staying in but it was in the south, maybe the 3d or 4th resort from the southern end. I remember I saw a squid right near the shore and it got paralyzed for several minutes in the beam of light the way they often do. Then it discharged the ink and took off.

We're going to Cozumel in June and want to do some night-time snorkeling and take pics. I've never snorkeled at night and wonder where would be a good (and safe) place to try it out. Any suggestions?

Not sure if you've done this before or not but... I've gone snorkeling before, and at night. I've taken pictures (generally bad ones) while snorkeling during the day. I've taken pictures at night while scuba diving.

Maybe you have much better skills than me (lots of people do!) but for me, the combination of snorkeling + photos + night time (lights) is probably one thing too many to juggle. Any two of those, no problem. All three at the same time? Hmm.

Have fun regardless.

I usually take the non-diving members of the Herd out for a night snork around the stingray pen next to Blue Angel while we are there. We can usually find an octopus or two as well as free swimming sharptail eels, morays, rays, pipefish, and reef squid. I have enough lights so that everyone has one.

Now you can guarantee to see nurse sharks too... 3 of them.

You can snorkel and/or night dive from www.ScubaShackCoz.com - If you dive, you can rent a tank and weights for $8. It is located just south of the Tikila restaurant and bar- where you should also be able to snorkel at night.

Cool deal!! Do you know if you can night snorkel at the Money Bar beach?
I do not know , but, I will find out.. In the meantime...I bet someone here knows the answer :yeahbaby:

Why do you say that?

I believe he is referring to the 3 in the stingray prison. I did a night dive there and 2 were in the southwest corner of the pen sleeping and one was swimming back and forth against the fence.

Go by your local dive shop and get a dive light to take with you.

Stay close to shore as the currents can be slow or fast down there. Hang around the dock area and you are sure to see some cool stuff.

Also, if you have room in your suitcase, take a foam water noodle (cut one in half). They make it even easier to snorkel.
Thanks...I picked up a few dive lights with the camera mounts just in case we get lucky.
