We're going to Cozumel in June and want to do some night-time snorkeling and take pics. I've never snorkeled at night and wonder where would be a good (and safe) place to try it out. Any suggestions?

Where are you staying Jim ?

Sunscape Sabor on the south end of the island

You should be able to find some nighttime critter activity right at your resort. Just take along your own snorkel gear and walk in from the beach. I do not recall if Sabor has their beach/swimming area roped off so just beware of any nighttime boat activity that may be accessing the pier.

Best Regards and have a Fantastic Vacation !

Cool deal!! Do you know if you can night snorkel at the Money Bar beach?

Wrote this a while ago for someone asking about snorkeling at the Sabor for his/her daughter.

"Snorkeling at the Sabor provides a good bit of entertainment. Your daughter will find quite a variety if fish if she heads toward the "Shark" sticking out of the water. Tell her to go north beyond the shark toward the dock and look for slabs of concrete, the fish gather around those pieces also. If she wants to see a lot of fish, she can find a lot of Sergeant Majors around Secret's dock. Water shoes make beach entries easier."

The area is roped off. I don't know if they'd allow people in the ocean at night. Worth a try. The beach at the Sabor is quite nice for Cozumel. Enjoy your stay.

Cool deal!! Can't wait to get back!

I stayed at Secrets in December and did a little night exploring. They dont rope off the docks every night, so you just have to go on a night they are not using it for dinner. I honestly dont remember if they had dinners on the pier that night. I am sure I drew enough attention from people relaxing on the beach though.

I didnt swim out to the concrete, but there was plenty to see around the dock, especially for a quick, night swim. .

Go by your local dive shop and get a dive light to take with you.

Stay close to shore as the currents can be slow or fast down there. Hang around the dock area and you are sure to see some cool stuff.

Also, if you have room in your suitcase, take a foam water noodle (cut one in half). They make it even easier to snorkel.
