I think that there are alot of people that CAN afford to do tropical vacations. If I were wrong then you would see "apple", and a host of other travel type businesses ie: cruise lines, all in-clusive resorts go out of business.

If you look at the current rate of savings in the United States, and the amount of average credit card debt per person and per family, I believe you'll see the opposite is true. People can "afford" to go on these trips because they're spending money they don't have and are living outside their means.
