what a great and informative forum this is people all over the place on this site I love it
My name is Jake and have been certified since 2012 was mostly a free diver and spearfisher along w abalone on our norcal coast which no longer exists. My wife started me on this and we only dove a few times together Then stopped due to back surgeries and sports for our daughter now she’s in college at cu boulder and we’re free and have really taken up scuba again enjoying our company together
Anyways thank you in advance for all the good info, we did take a refresher class last week and realized how much we have forgotten and class was very beneficial to us heading to breakwater in Monterey first thing in the morning take care, Jake

Welcome back to the scuba world and so glad to see you enjoying Scubaboard. I look forward to reading more of your participation.

Welcome back. I too lament the closure of abalone in Nor. Cal. Made many an ab dive off Gualala and Sea Ranch. Hopefully water conditions will improve and they will return in sufficient numbers for sport harvest. They need to increase penalties for commercial poachers as well. Lost count of the number of times I'd see a couple of guys load 100 abs at a time into their pickup for sale to restaurants and overseas. I'd report it each time (complete with pics of license plates) but never heard if my efforts resulted in anything positive. M
