new tank with no pressure

Hi

I bought a steel tank a few weeks ago - it's brand new and has been VIPed and hydroed before sale. I haven't dived with it yet but noticed recently that there's no pressure at all in it.

Does this mean that it will have to be VIPed again before use?

Tanks come empty from the manufacturer. Normally, the dive shop VIP's the tank and fills it as part of the sale. If you indeed have a brand new, never been filled tank, there should be no need for a VIP. If it was run dry on a dive I'd have it looked at.

If the tank has zero pressure then it is a good idea to spin the valve off and check to make sure that nothing has gotten in.
This is more on the level of just being safer reather than a major issue.

BTW I can buy tanks locally with a fill for less than I can buy online.

Whenever a tank gets empty, its a good idea to look inside to make sure nothing has entered the tank.

A good LDS will do it and not charge you for it.

At my shop we fill the tank as part of the sale.
If it is a brand new tank with 0 dives on it, it should be fine.

but I would ask my LDS wo check it first... should be no charge to takea peek as they are just looking for forign objects, dust, moisture etc... fairly quick procedure...

We had some come from the factory (pick one) with a good rust glaze. Nothing too serious but surprising nonetheless.

I have also seen that in a new steel tank.... AL seems to do ok though..

Thanks for feedback. I'm surprised myself that the LDS didn't give it a fill for me . .I didn't think of it at the time as I didn't think rust might even be an issue.
