I am new to diving and have been reading a lot of threads and narrowing my new regulaor purchase. I hear a lot of recommendations for a guys regulator all metal best recommendations for one of the three above, but recently saw a thread that SR1 1C ser nos, had a defect. So which brand and model from the above regulator would you suggest for a newbe, cost not a concern. Thanks?

What sort of conditions are you diving in? First off I'd be really leary of the SR1 until Sherwood gets all that sorted out, and get supply back up. I know guys still waiting for their warranty replacements because Sherwood is back ordered. Which Zeagle are we talking about? I have 4 Zeagle regs, and they are stunning for performance and reliability in deep cold great lakes water. The kind of water I would really feel uncomfortable taking a SP Mk25 into, which have a history of freezing. Personally I think the Zeagle DSV is one of the best bang for the buck regs you can buy.

MK17 G250V would be a better choice then the MK25 G250V.

If you are planning to dive allot internationally the zeagle would not be my choice, they are not really that big international. But make a good reg on par with the other big brands. The Flathead is a good performer.

The Sherwood would SR1 is a good reg, as mention above, I would wait till they resolve the defect issue.

A good all metal reg is the Mares V22 abyss or proton on their upper end the V42 proton.

I leave in SC and generally would dive in warmer waters. I am not sure which Zeagle to go with, but I like the fact they are american made. Is all metal better or not too? Thanks.

Also, what about Atomic Aquatics ST1 stainless or the T2 Titanium? Man there are too many choices!!!!!!!!!

If you were to go Zeagle and only dive warmer waters, I would get an Envoy Deluxe. If you are ever going to see some cold water, get the DSV. The only difference between then is the DSV has an enviro seal on the first stage and a heatsink on the second stage. The Flatheads are nice, but I did a head to head comparison at 126 feet of water barely above freezing this past Saturday, and I couldn't feel a difference between a DSV and a Flathead VI.

I actually own all three regs that you are considering - Mk 25/G250, Zeagles (I have a couple of flatheads, 50Ds and DSVs) and the SR-1. Sherwood supposedly has the hp issue fixed and if that is true, of the regs you mentioned, it would be my first choice. It is environmentally sealed so cold and/or contaminated water are not issues, breathes great and has a small second stage which really does reduce jaw fatigue. My second choice of the regs you listed would be the MK25/G250V. I prefer it over all of the Zeagle regs for a couple of reasons - mostly related to the first stage: it has better hose routing options, particularly for doubles, but even for a single tank setup, I think it routes cleaner, breathes better (in my opinion) and you are more likely to find ScubaPro support on an international dive trip than Zeagle. I would not consider a SP diaphram reg (MK17). If you want a diaphram regs, then get the Zeagle.

If I had to go out an buy one tomorrow and leave immediately on a dive trip, I'd get the SP just because it is tried and true and you can be sure that it will work. I do think the benefits of the Sherwood are worth the possible hassle of the hp issue if you can put a couple of dives on it before taking it on a trip.

Thanks Jackie, now that is good advice someone can consider and not hype. Is it good to always won several regs as a rec diver (once a month?). I assume so, so if get the sherwood, you see to suggest i go w/ a second regulator through SP and then i have a sherwood and a SP. That cool to all?

I'll second the Zeagle. I have the DSV first with the ZX second stage. The Envoy as my safe second. They both breath great. For my primary though I would pick the Envoy Deluxe over the Envoy since it is adjustable for work of breathing. Zeagles are very well built and used by the US Navy. I believe the Flathead is used by the SEALS. No idea that the Envoy was a nonsealed version of the DSV.
