there is no application to read the aes file.

So what? Nothing is "read" when you download it to your disc, it's saved there, doing nothing, until you launch SW Desktop to upload it. SW Desktop may or may not be "reading" it, but it's not the Mac Instructions that need help, it's you.

Dude. I've never seen you go off on someone who doesn't get it. Are you off your meds? :)

Hi all, just bought a new Petrel . Doesn't seem compatible with Mac OSX 10.9.3. First off instructions on the website about downloading firmware don't exist for Mac only PC. The manual has nothing of use. Mac(Safari) doesn't seem to have an application to read the aes file. (no instructions about this in the manual). I bought the VPMB option and its as this that doesn't exist as to how to get it onto unit . anyone out there tried to do this?

Curious if you actually got your question answered. Something must be in the water...lots of grumpiness.

If what the OP is trying to do is unlock VPM-B via a purchased unlock code, he's asking the wrong question by trying to figure out how to download .aes files and upload them to the Petrel via SW Desktop.

VPM-B is already on the Petrel, and is unlocked on the Petrel itself without any external input:

Unlock Code

The next ‘System Setup’ changeable option is ‘Unlock’, which allows the user to enter in an unlock in order to change models and to set other features.

Question was answered several times. OP does not understand computers.

From the main screen on the Petrel-
  • Press left button 5 times to get to System set- up
  • Press right button once to select
  • Press left button 5 times to get to the screen you need- the "unlock" is 1/2 way down
  • Press right button once to edit
  • Press left button to get to unlock line
  • Press right button to get a row of 0's to appear- Looks like 0000000000000000000000 or so
  • Use the left button to scroll through digits 0-9 & keep going to get through the alphabet (A- G I think)
  • Once you reach the digit or letter you want, press the right button to move to the next digit/ letter & at the end to save the code.
