New long lasting regs?

There are lots of current first stages that would easily hold up for 30-40 years with reasonable care. I'm not so sure about the plastic second stages. Maybe some will, who knows. The oldest 2nd stages that I have are metal; much more durable.

But the bigger question is which companies will still be around and supporting their products in 40 years. If I had to guess, it would be SP and AL, just based on current longevity and market share.

And luckily thanks to AL most probably Apeks too.

We already know one company for plastics: Scubapro. I only wish their customer service had kept pace. But my D400's and G250's are 30+ right now, and still going strong. I'm hoping that Atomic's polymers do as well, but you never know. Much as I love them, maybe that will be their weak spot.

Whew, a seed of doubt has been planted, itch gone away.

At 63 YO I don’t care if anything last 30 more years because I doubt I will. As for atomic polymers I don’t see any reason the body won’t last but I can get a new main body for $20. The purge cover feels like D400 material so should hold up well also easily replaced.

Even the mighty metals of the past had various plastic and rubber bits that will fail over time.

For the long run everyone should have a few 109’s around with the duro kit and silicone rubber parts, after all of the plastics have failed due to ozone the 109 will still be ready to go.

If you really wanted to.. Those old metal regs can be re-chromed and be new again... But, If you keep your eyes and ears open.. There is still NOS and little used stuff out there..

they just didn't perform as I thought they would on deeper dives , I was talked in them when I wanted to replace my Poseidon's.
