new diver's first suit, go for the semi-dry?

Monterey temp is rarely above 55F. Most of my dive logged 50-52F, the lowest is 46F. Not sure about San Luis Obispo tho. . I also agree a used drysuit. Look around, a very decent used drysuit can be found for a bit more than a new semi dry. And if you think you will dive a lot, you will eventully move to a drysuit. Your thick semi-dry won't get much use after that. So why not save the money on the semi dry, go for a used dry.
 
Why learn to dive and miss out on world class diving in your own backyard? Monterey has amazing diving. CA diving is some of the best diving anywhere. Proper exposure protection can make this so enjoyable.
