ok folks
im still purchasing my new gear and now im gone buy my computer
what do ya think about the Uwatec Aladin Air Z Nitrox Wrist Computer
any feedback accepted im hoping to order it tomorrow

all i know is my lds does not like them....and not sure why actually....

but i personally...i went with the genesis resource...you would be interested inthe React since you do nitrox and seem to indicate you want a comp that does nitrox. I also do nitrox but use my regular comp as an additional safety factor.

oceanic has some nice ones as well. I would def stay away from the transmitter type.

I have the Aladin Air Z Nitrox, it is my third computer, after an Oceanic DataTrans and an Aladin Pro.

Plus:
- Nitrox compatible
- does monitor air flow/air left using with a transmitter located on the first stage
- no button to press (except the back illumination one)
- some parameters can be adjusted by software (e.g. tank reserve, etc...)
- long-life battery (5-10 years depending on number of dives)
- display depth with a 0.1 meter approximation (very useful for night dives)
- many information available in the log, so you can analyse what you have done

Minus:
- it does not show air usage (just an alarm for "excessive air usage")
- no temperature sensor
- battery has to be changed by a technician
- the software used to store/display logs on the PC is pain in the *** to use

Personally I like it. The screen is rather different from the "traffic lights" Oceanic style (red, yellow and green gauges everywhere).

You also said you were going to order it... Uwatec does not allow any internet sales, so maybe you mean your local shop is ordering one... but if you are ordering on line - I'd caution against it. It will void their warranty - and part of their warranty is battery replacement for life. As someone else pointed out, you cannot change the battery - that's a factory job... And they charge 100's to do it if you buy a non-warranty gray market unit.

Also, some of the features can only be changed if you have a computer hooked up to it. For example, to simply turn off the audible alarms - you must have a computer and the download cables.... just to change the alarm settings.

Personally, I'd lean toward the Aeris Atmos Elite Computer which gives me more functionality, and larger - easier to see numbers. Also, I find pushing buttons a lot easier than licking fingers and touching contacts.

Hi! Just saw your email. I am curious about what you said about Uwatec Policy to not allow internet sales... Does it apply to US or also to Europe as well? And where did you read about it?

I am asking because:

a) I live in Europe
b) I ordered my Aladin from www.simplyscuba.com which sells all over Europe and the price was extremely good compared to what a shop could offer

Thanks,

i also see uwatec sold on the leisure pro website
now is that considered not internet because they have a catalog or what
yeah i did not notice that the Aladin Air Z Nitrox does not have temp sensor
and i changed my mind towards the Uwatec Aladin Smart Pro Air/Nitrox Wrist Computer
what ya think and since its not air integrated
can ya find a small air guage instead of the big bulky console

Personally I would rather purchase an air-integrated computer (either console or wrist + transmitter): you get more information, you can monitor the air flow and if the computer is sophisticated enough, it can plan the deco profile taking in account also how much air you have breathed (therefore, how much Nitrogen you have really absorbed).

I'm not sure about Europe... In the US, all scubapro and uwatec items must be sold across the counter. I would contact the Scubapro distributor for your country and find out. The problem is without a warranty, you won't find out if there is a recall, you don't have much recourse if there is a problem, and even the battery change will be $100 + instead of free for life.

Maybe your country is different, but here - they only people selling them are those that are dealing in non warrantied gray market goods. We have a huge shop and carry Uwatec and Scubapro - and are not allowed to sell them except in the store.

I'd spend the extra money and get the air integrated. Otherwise, if you like it, you'll find yourself trying to sell that one so you can order an Air 2 Nitrox.

I use both the Air 2 Nitrox and the SmartCom. I like the features and haven't had any problems with them. I have read of others that might lock-up diving certain profiles; can't remember which ones though.

I believe that in European Union countries, there are no warranty restrictions on internet sales. It is considered restraint of trade.
