Hi all!

Well, I bought some mesh for my AL80's and
these things are darn hard to put on!!!

Is there a trick to it?

I cannot, for the life of me, get it on till the last
4 inches to the boot.

And I weigh 225... Should we be 2 to slip
this on?

At least I am sure it will not slip...

Help!

Do you really, really want those things on your tanks? A lot of divers find they collect crud in them, and they snag stuff too.

I've been told that squirting liquid soap on the outside of your tank helps to get the mesh on, but I've never actually seen anybody do it. It sounds messy.

I've used liquid soap. If it is particularly tough, you might try putting the mesh in a pot of near boiling water and then slipping it over the soap-lubricated tank?

Most diver try to eliminate possible snag points. You're about to add about 1000.

The best way to work with those is to stand your tank up near the closest trash can and drop the tank protector in the can.
But,if you feel you must use them. Try this.
1) Stand your tank upright.
2) Start protector over shoulder of tank.
3) reach up to top of protector and PUSH (Not Pull) it onto tank.

Wetting the tank can help some, Pushing and spinning is best.
Works like Chinese Finger Cuff if you try to pull it on.
Be forwarned that the reason I stopped using mine was that my tank kept on sliding
out of my BCD. (And it has double straps)
Haven't had any more problems since I quit using them.
Oh and the tanks still got scratched.
So I'm not sure exactly what purpose they serve.

Obviously so that the tank gets a special "custom" feel to it. Maybe we can do a scubaboard 'Pimp My Tank' event.

The thing about those mesh "protectors" - just because they sell them doesn't mean they're actually useful or a good idea. I used to have some and they're really not. Just a pain in the neck.

Yep, Nothing feels more "custom" than to have your tank hit your ankles while performing a frog kick.
Personally, I found them to be worthless during the dive.
OTOH they do keep your tanks from banging while driving down the road.
But, so do "Tank Tamers".
There is a "right" tool for every job.
You wouldn't use a sledge hammer on a finish nail would you.

Zip tie one end shut. Lace some cord around the other end and make a catch bag.

I don't see where they have a function better done by other means.

Other wise the soap and hot water softening should get you there.

You forgot #4 . Keep sliding protector till it comes off the other side of the tank and into the trash, now you can say it has been used.

Oh ya they seem to help corosion build up too.
